License tagging for Image:Cyprus districts Greek.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Cyprus districts Greek.jpg. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 23:04, 6 June 2006 (UTC)

Cyprus Names

You seem to have gone and changed the heading on number of articles on Cypriot villages. Which source are you using as your guide? It seems that you are not following the nomenclature used by the official Republic of Cyprus census published in 2002. You can access that here: [1] Georgeg 10:18, 20 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

I am using the traditional nomenclature that was used before the nonsensical system of romanisation. You can see that these names are to be found on a number of older and new sources, including Google Earth. These are the correct names. I am Cypriot and I know that the "official" nomenclature is rather controversial and, to some points, nonsensical. Neo_^

I agree with you, I preferred the old names but these are the names used today and the names people will most likely search for using wikipedia or google. I think we must use the official names rather than change entries based on our personal preference, therefore I'm going to reinstate Arodes as the correct spelling.

Arodes and Arodhes are not so much different as are other names. I am Cypriot, so please let ME handle cypriot names... Neo ^ 07:11, 14 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

License tagging for Image:CGR en.jpg and other images

Thank you for uploading images to Wikipedia. However many of the images you upload don't appear to be allowed according to Wikipedia's copyright policy. E.g. the maps you upload can not be tagged as PD unless you are the person that drew the original maps. If you are not that person, these maps will remain under copyright until after the artist's death. If Cyprus adopted the EU legislation on this issue when joining the EU, the maps will not be allowed for use on Wikipedia until 70 years have passed after the death of the cartographer. This cannot have happened yet for obvious reasons. The images needing clarification are: Image:CGR en.jpg, image:Cy60 en.jpg and image:Cy50 en.jpg.

The photographs are also problematic. Unless you are the same person that took Image:CGR Famagusta.jpg and Image:CGR Nicosia.jpg during WWII, these images are also under copyright. It could be argued that these two images could be permitted under the fair use rules but that requires detailed information about the person(s) that took the original photos. What we need to know is the name(s) of the photographer(s) and whether he/she is still alive or deceased. If dead, we need to know when the person died.

I presume you took Image:CGR No1.jpg and image:CGR ticket.jpg yourself? If not, these images will also be unsuitable for use on Wikipedia. If you have any questions about licensing and about what types of images that are allowed on Wikipedia, please check with Wikipedia:Media copyright questions where other editors can give you more information about Wikipedia's rules for images or ask an administrator. --Valentinian T / C 10:54, 8 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

I am the person who drew the maps Image:CGR en.jpg, image:Cy60 en.jpg and image:Cy50 en.jpg. The images Image:CGR Famagusta.jpg and Image:CGR Nicosia.jpg were not taken by me, but I have used them in my book.

Please, stop being pedantic about copyright issues. The internet should be free! Neo ^ 08:52, 10 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
