Webster County High School (West Virginia)

Webster County High School, in Upperglade, West Virginia, is a public high school. The size of student body has dropped drasticly since the school was opened in the 1970's. When it opened it had over 2,000 students. Presently, on average, during any given year it contains 600 to 700 total students.

Nickname

The schools teams are nicknamed the "Highlanders" using a Scottsman leaning on a sword with a set of bagpipes in his right arm as the school logo. The schools basketball court has a red overlapped WC outlined in white shadowed in black. The football helmets bear the W logo the same as seen on the University of Wisconsin Badgers helmets.

Mascot

The mascot is usually a local resident or student dressed in Scottish attire consisting of a kilt, and flannel sash.

Notable Alumni

Josh Stewart actor on the televison show's Third Watch and Dirt.

Extracurricular activities

Sports

Webster County High School fields several sports teams, including:

  • Boys: basketball, football, baseball, cross country, track, and wrestling.
  • Girls: basketball, cheerleading, showgirls, softball, cross country, and track.

Richwood High School is WCHS' main rival (in football at least). The two football teams play each other the first week of the season for the coveted Wagon Wheel.
