The Fairfield County Sherrifs Department was in place until around the year 2000. It served as a law enforcement service wich acted as security for the county court houses and transportation of prisoners for the county untill recently in the year 2000 when Connecticut eliminated any form of county government(exept for representation in congress and a county court system). Now, instead of a county sheriff, Fairfield County has it's own county branch of the Connecticut state Marshall wich carries out leagl warrants put out by the Connecticut state court system. and the Fairfield County court system that are in Fairfield County,Connecticut. Even though any form of County Government has been taken away from Connecticut Counties, there is still an individuel court system in place for each county.
