Marist High School is a private Catholic high school in Atlanta, Georgia. It is located in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Atlanta. It was founded in 1901 by the Marist Brothers as a private, Catholic, military school. The original school building was on Ivy Street in Atlanta, and the current campus is located at 3790 Ashford Dunwoody Rd. The school became coeducational in 1976. [1]

Athletics

Marist has traditionally been a premier athletic powerhouse in Georgia, ranking #15 in a 2004 Sports Illustrated High School Athletic Program Top 20. Currently, 77% of males and 67% of females participate in athletics at Marist School. It has won the AAAA Director's Cup for the best athletic program since its inception in 1997. The Marist athletes have recently won state championships in Boys' and Girls' Soccer, Girls' Volleyball, Boys' and Girls' Cross Country, Football, Swimming, Baseball, and Track and Field. Marist now sponsors a boys' and girls' lacrosse team. In 2005, both teams made the state playoffs in their second season. Marist recently won the 2006 State AAAA Volleyball beating Starr's Mill High School. This marks their 5th straight state finals appearance and their second state championship. In 2006 the varsity football team advanced to the AAAA championship game against Northside High School in Warner Robins and lost.

Band

The Marist War Eagle Marching Band has continually earned superior ratings in almost all classes at all three annually attended marching band contests for the past three years. In 2004, the marching band, conducted by Jonathan Hoffman, played the music of The Electric Light Orchestra or ELO for short. The show included Mr. Blue Sky, Eldorado Overture, Twilight, Manhattan Rumble,and Turn to Stone. In 2005, the band, conducted by Patty Vaughan, played the music of Supertramp. The show started with Ain't Nobody but Me, then Lady, then The Logical Song, Dreamer, Bloody Well Right, and ended with Goodbye Stranger. In 2006, lead by Patty Vaughan for the second year in a row, played the music of Styx. The show included Grand Illusion, Lorelei, Come Sail Away, Mr. Roboto, Show Me the Way, and finished with Fooling Yourself (Angry Young Man).
