Springer-Verlag (pronounced SHPRING er FAIR lahk) was a worldwide publishing company base in Berlin and Heidelberg, Germany. Since 2004 it is part of Springer Science+Business Media.

In computer science, Springer publishes the leading Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) series on state-of-the-art results.

History

The company was founded in 1842 by Julius Springer in Berlin. At first it mainly published political and philosophical works; later it became an important scientific and academic publisher. Over the years, Springer has published books by authors including Max Born, Rudolf Diesel, Albert Einstein, Otto Hahn, Robert Koch, Ferdinand Sauerbruch and Werner von Siemens.
