Akim Tamiroff
Akim Tamiroff (Tblisi, 29 ottobre 1899 – Palm Springs, 17 settembre 1972) è stato un attore statunitense di origini armene.
Biografia
Dopo aver studiato alla scuola teatrale del Moscow Art Theatre, giunse negli USA nel 1923 in tournée con un gruppo di attori e decise di rimanervi.
A Hollywood
Tamiroff ebbe una carriera di attore ad Hollywood, nonostante il suo accento russo.
Debuttò nel 1932 in Okay, America!, tuttavia non fu accreditato nei titoli di testa. Egli recitò in diversi ruoli senza essere accreditato fino al 1935, quando fu coprotagonista in The Lives of a Bengal Lancer. L'anno successivo ebbe il ruolo principale in The General Died at Dawn, per cui ebbe una nomination per l'Oscar. Apparve nel musical del 1937 High, Wide, and Handsome.
Nel decennio successivo apparve in film come The Soldier and the Lady, The Buccaneer, Union Pacific, Giubbe rosse, The Corsican Brothers, Gente allegra, Five Graves to Cairo, Per chi suona la campana (nomination all'Oscar), The Bridge of San Luis Rey, The Great McGinty and The Miracle of Morgan's Creek.
In anni più recenti Tamiroff recitò in Touch of Evil, Ocean's Eleven, Topkapi, Alphaville e Caccia alla volpe.
Morì di cancro il 17 settembre 1972.
