Book the Thirteenth (actual title unknown at this time) will be the thirteenth and most likely the final novel in the Series of Unfortunate Events series by Lemony Snicket. Some people think that Lemony Snicket will write more than 13 books, because the Baudelaires troubles will never end until Violet turns 18 and they get the fortune; but Book the Thirteenth will probably be the last book because thirteen is considered an unlucky number, because it fits in with the theme of thirteen in the series (each book has 13 chapters, for instance), and because the twelfth book is titled The Penultimate Peril, "penultimate" here being a word meaning "second to last". Also, there is a reference to "a series of thirteen books" in Chapter 10 of The Penultimate Peril. Daniel Handler (Lemony Snicket's real-life alterego) has stated that Book the Thirteenth is likely to come out in Fall 2006, and recently a statement from a HarperCollins representative stated the tentative release date as October 13, 2006. Another release date for this book is April the third or maybe March as the Audio Cassette is according to [1]is coming out April 3rd 2006 and Audio Cassettes are released later than the books.
Although there is much speculation about Book the Thirteenth's title - particuarly from the The Penultimate Peril's website, The Nameless Novel - there is no solid evidence as to the book's title, although following usual Snicket title patterns, the title will contain three words; the first of which is "The", and the second and third both starting with the same letter (which is either D, F, I, J, K, L, N, O, Q, T, U, X, Y, or Z assuming none of the first letters already used are used again).
Some titles already suggested are "The Ultimate Understanding", "The Zeppelin Zone", "The Dastardly Denoument", "The Frightening Fowls", "The Livid Liquid", "The Final Fiasco", and "The Tantalizing Truth".
The first clues pointing towards any events or revelations in Book the Thirteenth are likely to be found in Book the Twelfth, The Penultimate Peril, which was published on October 18, 2005.
Each book concludes with a letter from Lemony Snicket to his editor concerning the next book. In The Penultimate Peril, the twelfth book, the 'letter' is simply a paper napkin with a picture of a ship on the bottom right-hand corner, with the following written on it: "To My Kind Editor, The end is near. With all due respect, Lemony Snicket." Although it is signed "Lemony Snicket", it is not his signature. Considering that an appropriate adjective was used for a second-to-last book (penultimate), it is possible that the next book will have an adjective that relates somewhat to the "end."
Book the Thirteenth may feature Dewey Denouement's library, under the reflecting pond of Hotel Denouement. The book also may be set at sea, because at the end of TPP the Baudelaires escape on a boat with Count Olaf. The ship on the napkin may be the Prospero, which is suspected to be in league with VFD. While Count Olaf is trying to escape from the authorites, the Baudelaires are searching for their friends.
The Dastardly Denouement is likley to be the title and also The Penultimate Peril means next-to-last peril. There is another piece of evidence to support this and that is the letter with one of the sentences saying 'Sadly, this book presents the next-to-last chronical of the lives of the Baudelaire orphans, and it is next-to-first in its supply of misery, despair and unpleasantness.
At the end of every book in the series, there is a clue as to what the next book may be about. In The Penultimate Peril, on the right side there are crows/eagles, leading readers to believe that crows or eagles will again play a part in the next book. The Baudelaires might see the Quagmires again, since the crows were mentioned in the book, and Quigley is at sea. Also, there is a water tower in the scenery, which may be another clue.
Lemony Snicket is likely to come in contact with the "FFP" or the Female Finnish Pirates, as mentioned in The Bad Beginning: Rare Edition. The FFP are the inventors of the devil's tongue, which Violet is particularly fond of. Violet is also likely to return to Briny Beach for a third time.
The children might come in contact with the Quagmires because they are both at sea...
However it is unknown whether a second namelessnovel website will be created or if he will make us wait till the next book.
