In contrast to the usual game scenario of the princess being captured by Bowser, in this game Mario, Luigi, and Toad have been captured by use of a magic wand that controls emotions, and Peach is the only one able to rescue them. Using her 4 emotion-based powers (joy, happiness, anger, and sadness), she can fight off enemies and solve puzzles. A magical, talking umbrella named Parry (Kassa in Japanese) accompanies her in the game and has multiple uses. The game features numerous classic Mario enemies, such as Goombas, Koopa Troopas, Hammer Brothers, and so forth. In a twist, some of the enemies are also emotionally effected, such as the sad blue Goombas or the Bullet Bills burning with red anger.

So far, the game has been released in Japan; and is scheduled for release in North America on February 27, 2006 [1].

Gameplay

The DS touch screen displays the four moods: joyful, happy, sad, and mad. Tapping on a mood activates different abilities, which typically helps solve puzzles or defeat enemies. Some abilites are:

  • Happy: Restores life.
  • Sad: Peach will cry, making her run faster, or can make plants grow for her to climb up to high places
  • Mad: Peach will catch fire, making her invincible.
  • Joyful: Peach will sing and dance, making her fly.
