Steward requests/Permissions

Requests for permissions is a page to ask for sysop/admin, bureaucrat or CheckUser access to any Wikimedia wiki where no local means exist to do so yet. A steward will only give you access if your wiki has no bureaucrats (someone who can make sysops). If your wiki has a bureaucrat, please use the requests for adminship page on your own wiki instead.

For urgent access (to combat ongoing large-scale vandalism), you may ask on the #wikimedia-stewards IRC channels instead.

Stewards: all requests presented here should be archived when fulfilled.

Boilerplate Request for Permissions

The text below is a template for requesting specific permissions on a wiki. Please copy it and complete the three required points, plus other salient information.

===== Project name =====

I request sysop access on ''project name'':

*'''Language Code:''' XX
*'''Local Request Link:''' [[XX:Project:XXXXX]]
*'''Local User Page:''' [[XX:User:XXXXX]]

Thank you. ~~~~

Notes:

  1. Be sure to complete the information as requested. Without it, a steward cannot process the request.
  2. Please add the request here after the community approval.
  3. Be aware that local request page (RfA) may not be the same with the administrators page.

Current Requests

Please place your request at the end of the appropriate section below, and state in the heading which project you are referring to. All requests for permissions are subject to approval by the local community, and any unauthorised permissions will be revoked upon complaint. Please remember to inform your community of your request. A steward will notify you when the request is processed.

CheckUser rights

To ask for a steward to answer one of your request, see Request for CheckUser information.

Note to stewards : when someone ask a checkuser status, please check the current policy of attribution of status BEFORE giving this status. When you give someone checkuser, please list them here : CheckUser. Thanks

According to policy, there is no TEMPORARY status of checkuser. Either there are already checkuser on a project and these people must be asked to do the checkuser. Or there is nobody and a steward must do it. Giving a temporary status to anyone just simply asking it to a steward, with no agreement from the local community is against the checkuser status rules. Giving it with no request mentionned anywhere is even more problematic. Breaching these rules should imply removing the status of the steward if he can not be trusted to follow commonly accepted rules. If any one has a problem with this rule and wish that from now on, checkuser status be given to anyone without any community discussion, he must have the current rules changed, not breach them. Thanks Anthere 03:24, 23 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Note: When giving someone checkuser, please (a) ask them to subscribe to checkuser-l and (b) email checkuser-l-owner@wikipedia.org so that the listadmins know the person is allowed on the mailing list. (The list may contain confidential information.) - David Gerard 15:22, 31 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Any request made in a different paragraph than this one should not be considered.

CheckUser for Serbian Wikipedia

Millosh on Serbian Wikipedia (sr:Корисник:Милош. In this moment I have 19 votes for and 0 against. I don't think that it is reasonable to wait for more votes. People who didn't vote usually do not vote... The page where people voted is [1] --Millosh 15:28, 25 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

According to the policy it isn't possible this. The candidates should have at least 25 votes. -Romihaitza 20:59, 25 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have 27 votes now. --Millosh 22:43, 26 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
28. --Millosh 22:55, 26 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I have 29 votes and I am wandering is Romihaitza fast only when it is possible to give bureaucratized answer? --Millosh 01:24, 28 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I do not like your responds. Being Steward or checkuser is a bureaucratic function. People are expected above all other users to absolutely follow policy. To criticize a user for following policy, especial you in this position is not appropriate.
Do this and I will make you checkUser; put on that vote page [3] by the section of your votes in English that this vote is about the question of may become CheckUser on that wiki.
And write here explicitly that you promise to respect the letter and spirit of the CheckUser Policy. 3 days after you have done that I will make you checkuser --Walter 11:05, 1 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I was talking about one of the essential rules of Wikipedia. After 5 hours of my edit steward told me it is not possible to give me Checkuser permission because I don't have 25 votes; next day I had more then 25 votes and I had to wait three days more to get next instructions. If a person on the position of power (in this case a steward) is able to give a negative answer in 5 hours, (s)he (or any other steward) has to be able to give a positive answer in (similar) reasonable time; otherwise, it is a bureaurcatization of the stewardship. --Millosh 13:01, 1 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't criticize policy, but the exact case of bureaucratization of power (if I want to criticize policy, I would do it on the better place). I don't see anything wrong with the constructive critics of anything related to our project. My rhetoric question was ironic, but I expect that persons elected on the power position do not bureaucratize their position. And this case and this page is very good place for saying that. Also, I expect that my position with Checkuser permission will not be related to my possibility to talk openly about problems in our community. --Millosh 13:01, 1 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I added translation into English (as it affected heading, here is the new link [4]). --Millosh 13:01, 1 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Of course that I will respect the letter and spirit of the CheckUser Policy. --Millosh 13:01, 1 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
If you need something more (or if I didn't do something in the right way), please let me know. --Millosh 13:01, 1 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Done, is checkuser. Mailing list request send, added to the list. --Walter 12:20, 6 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Just for the record, Romihaitza was in announced wiki-vacation in that period (from 26th of February till 5th of March). Is still retained in real life. -Romihaitza 20:55, 8 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You seem to be the only person active on that wiki. It is good that you take interest in that wiki. But I have checked your edits there and you give me the impression that you are not very familiar with how a wikipedia works. Also when there is only one sysop on a wiki that is not very good. In this situation only temporary sysop-access can be granted. I make you temporary sysop for 3 months. Your sysop rights expire on 2006-06-31. After that you must apply again. If your where active, and no complaints about it or there are other users active who support you it can be made definitive. --Walter 14:17, 1 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

To support Lou as a sysop I'd like to notice that although there are two sysop accounts in this wiki, they are not active (at least the last year). Greek wiktionary was inactive until Lou's arrival and creation of thousands of pages by him. So I don't think you should wait to see more community support, as there aren't many users to vote for him. Having a sysop so active like Lou would be very good and it will bring more users when all things needing a sysop will be fixed. --Geraki 08:55, 8 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of access

Self-de-adminship can be requested here, and will be granted immediately. You may be asked to prove you are the same user on meta as on your local wiki first, by putting information on your talk page on your local wiki, that you're requesting de-adminship.

To request the removal of sysop access from another user, please gain consensus on this on your own wiki first. All discussion must be kept on your local wiki. When it is finished and there is a community consensus to desysop a user, a trusted person from that wiki should just provide a link here to the discussion and a very brief explanation of what the results of that were.

Please do not open discussions here about rights.

Current temporary permissions for emergency or technical purposes

Please, do not archive temporary permissions as they are only temporary. You should archive this after the rights are revoked. Thanks!

  • I made w:sd:User:Aursani temporary sysop there. This appointment expires on 2006-06-31
    • He is the only active user there and likes to setup the wiki, translate stuff and so. If after 3 months there are no complains, this user was active and did not do to strange things as sysop or if there by then some other active users approve he can stay sysop. Check of he by then has discovered that you need to include licence information when uploading files. --Walter 14:34, 1 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Greenlandish Wikipedia

Hi I want sysop on Greenlandish Wikipedia. http://kl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Administrators Thank You kaniina.

Hi! It's great that you want to contribute to the Greenlandish Wikipedia. However, I think you should get a little more experience in wikis first (you have one contribution there now; creating Wikipedia:Administrators). You can get temporary adminship to translate the interface, but you should have a little wiki experience before starting that task. Jon Harald Søby 18:44, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hi I made some more contribution . Now I just want to translate interface and delete vandalism . Thank You Kaniina
Okay, temporary sysop status granted. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask me. Jon Harald Søby 11:15, 13 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Miscellaneous

Requests for Steward acting as Admin Moderator

English Wikibooks

I am requesting some general assistance from some stewards to help moderate a rather heated discussion over deadminship procedures on English Wikibooks. There are several names that have been noted for various reasons to be de-sysoped, and a steward needs to evaluate each of these requests independently for merit and cause. This is not a call to arms or a general Wikimedia community request to join in the fight, but a general request to some 3rd party to help with the moderation of the discussion, and to take action as necessary, preferably from somebody who has experience in moderating heated flame wars. As the actions being discussed are also going to require some sort of Steward intervention as well, this would serve both purposes. An appeal to admins for moderation isn't working because it is admins that are squabbling in this case. --Roberth 17:05, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Stewardship Korean cluster

This is *not* for requests to become steward of the Wikimedia Foundation. Those are appointed by the board.

For technical reasons there are "Florida-cluster Stewards" and "Korean-Cluster stewards". Florida-cluster stewards can here request to become also Korean-cluster steward.

What you need to do;

  1. Make a user account on Japanese Wikipedia (JA WP on the below) - You may change the language of the interface in your preferences. - If you have font problems, install Code2002 http://home.att.net/~jameskass/
  2. Set up your userpage on JA WP. If you are Steward there, you can not have an unborn (sic) userpage.
  3. Put your request on your talk page in your account on jawiki as follows;
I, ~~~~ , Steward of the Wikimedia Foundation, request to be granted stewardship also for the Korean cluster. See also[[meta:Requests_for_permissions#Stewardschip_Korean_cluster]]
  4. List here your username on JA WP and sign it.
  5. All stewards who had an account on the Japanese Wikipedia as of February 8 2006 were given steward access on both clusters.
