Formspring is an Online Form Builder and Internet hosting service, which enables users to create online forms such as surveys, contact forms, or event registrations. On November 25, 2009, they launched Formspring.Me at cutmeupchelsea, a social media site where users can ask each other anonymous questions. Formspring.Me, which links to Facebook and Twitter, became a craze in early 2010.[1][2][3] In response to its sudden popularity, microblogging site Tumblr launched a nearly-identical service called "Ask Me".[4]

Formsprings could be seen as a site which enables friends and family to socialise, but the annoymous postings which are allowed to be posted opens a pathway to a range of bullying, some minor, to extreme, including victimisation, harrasment, name calling, and there is no where on the site to report the abuse.
Formspring.Me has garnered some controversy, especially among teenagers, for opening the door for harassment, due to the anonymity of the entries.[5] A fight between several students at a Harrisburg, Pennsylvania High School, which started after an argument over Formspring.Me, garnered some media attention in February 2010.[6]
On March 12 2010, a Associated Press report saying that the creators planned to reveal personal information about their users spread on Twitter and other social networking sites. However, the report was identified as a hoax. [7]
