Content and language integrated learning (CLIL)[1] is a method of teaching school subjects in a foreign language, thus teaching both the subject and the language. It has many synonyms such as bilingual education, content based instruction, English (or other languages) as medium of instruction.[2]

Content-based instruction (CBI) is a similar approach. The term CLIL is more common in Europe, although the terms are sometimes used interchangeably.
