This a list of confirmed affiliates of the The CW Television Network, to launch in fall 2006, together with their current affiliation. The new network is a merger of The WB and UPN networks.
The new network will be based around 16 WB affiliates owned by Tribune Company (co-owner of the WB along with Time Warner) and 11 UPN affiliates owned by CBS Corporation. It should be assumed that other WB and UPN affiliates will opt to either affiliate with the new network or become independent.
In addition to those listed below, there is a strong likelihood, but not a guarantee, that affiliates in the following situations will join, as the press release announcing the network indicated that The CW will affiliate with existing WB or UPN stations whenever possible:
- those that already carry both UPN and WB programming,
- those that carry one network's programming, where the other's is either not available in the market or aired outside of primetime on another network's affiliate;
- non-Tribune WB affiliates, in markets where the UPN affiliate is owned by Fox, which appears to have decided to not seek the CW affiliation for any of its stations (including those in Minneapolis, Orlando, and Phoenix).
There are some reports that The CW has a commitment from The WB 100+ Station Group (a cable-distributed network with the entire WB schedule and syndicated programming outside of network time) to become affiliated with The CW. However, no verification of this has been found and such a move could be without internal warring given the number of broadcast UPN affiliates whose futures could be at risk in markets outside of the Top 100.
Any discussion as to whether CW would affiliate with one "type" of station over another, i.e. broadcast stations vs. cable-only, is at best speculation, since some cable-only "stations" may have better market penetration than broadcast outlets, some of which presently operate at very low power.
It is expected to be announced soon the first stations outside the core Tribune and CBS markets to be affiliated with the network. [1]
Official Affiliates
Note: According to an article in The Oklahoman (January 26, 2006), UPN affiliate KAUT-TV Oklahoma City was referenced in error in the initial announcement. It was acquired by The New York Times Company from CBS in late 2005, and company officials have made no decision on future affiliation.
Potential affiliates
(information is based on speculation and subject to change)
- WTTO in Birmingham, Alabama (Sinclair Broadcast Group)
- Reason: WTTO has a stronger over-the-air signal and higher viewership than its sister station WABM
- WHDF in Florence/Huntsville, Alabama (UPN) (Lockwood Broadcasting)
- Reason: No over-the-air WB affiliate in market
- WRJM (UPN) in Montgomery, AL (Josie Park Broadcasting, Inc.)
- Reason: No over the air WB affiliate in the market.
- KYES (UPN) in Anchorage, Alaska (Fireweed Broadcasting)
- Reason: No over-the-air WB affiliate, and KYES has a statewide combined cable/translator network; The WB affiliate in Anchorage is currently available on cable only.

- Reason: Fox-owned UPN affiliate KUTP will go independent
- KFRE in Fresno, California) (WB) (Pappas Telecasting)
- KXTU-LP in Colorado Springs, Colorado (UPN) (Raycom Media)
- Reason: No over-the-air WB affiliate in market (Denver's KWGN has a good signal in the market (and is significantly viewed), cable/satellite carriage, and reportedly vetoed an attempt in the late 1990s for the market to launch its own WB affiliate)
- WTVK in Fort Myers, Florida (WB) (ACME Communications)
- Reason: UPN is seen on both low-powered WEVU (which is not on cable) and cable-only WNFM; the two stations were related until Fort Myers-area cable provider Comcast bought out WEVU's programming outside of UPN.
- WJWB in Jacksonville, Florida (WB) (Media General)
- Reason: Second-strongest WB affiliate based on Nielsen ratings, plus UPN shares WAWS with Fox

- WLGA in Columbus, Georgia (UPN) (Pappas Telecasting)
- Reason: No over-the-air WB affiliate in market
- WGMN in Macon, Georgia (UPN)
- Reason: No over-the-air WB affiliate in market. WGMN announced that once their UPN contract expires September 2, 2006, they will go to strictly religious programming as part of CTN. The local CBS affililate, WMAZ, previously expressed interest in providing UPN programming once that contract expired. It is unknown whether WMAZ will pursue broadcast capability for the CW network, or if the cable WB channel provided by Cox Communications will switch to the CW.
- WGSA in Savannah, Georgia (UPN) (Southern TV Corporation)
- Reason: No over-the-air WB affiliate in market
- WSWG in Valdosta, Georgia (UPN) (Gray Television)
- Reason: No over-the-air WB in the Tallahassee (licenced) or Albany (serving) markets. A possibility does exist of the station going to CBS (which one of WSWG-DT's subchannels is airing). Or it could go to the existing WB100+ over-the-air WB in Tallahassee, (WFXU) (Pegasus Broadcast Television) which has double the cable coverage of the UPN and is carried by both dbs satellite providers.
- KFVE in Honolulu, Hawaii (WB) (Raycom Media)
- Reason: UPN is seen late afternoons on (otherwise Asian) independent KIKU.
- KNIN-TV (UPN) in Boise, Idaho (Banks Broadcasting)

- Reason: UPN affiliate WTSN-LP is a low-power station with a poor signal
- WSBT-DT 22.2 (aka "UPN Michiana") in South Bend, Indiana (UPN) (Schurz Communications)
- Reason: WB affliliate WMWB-LP is plagued with technical problems and has less coverage (even after analog vs. digital) than WSBT-DT.
- KGWB in Burlington, Iowa [Quad Cities] (WB) (Grant Broadcasting)
- KPWB in Des Moines, Iowa (WB) (Pappas Telecasting)
- Reason: UPN currently shares WHO-TV (which clears only WWE Smackdown) with NBC

- Reason: KLWB, unlike UPN affiliate KLAF, is a full-powered station
- WNUV in Baltimore, Maryland (WB) (Sinclair Broadcast Group)
- WBSF in Flint, Michigan (WB) (Barrington Broadcasting)
- Reason: No over-the-air UPN affiliate in market.
- WXSP (UPN) in Grand Rapids/Muskegon/Kalamazoo/Battle Creek, Michigan (LIN TV)
- Reason: The WB currently shares WZPX with the I network. However, WXSP is a network of low-power TV stations serving the West Michigan market, and is also available on cable and on HDTV as a subchannel of co-owned WOOD-TV's digital service.
- WHTV in Lansing, Michigan (UPN) (Venture Technologies dba Spartan TV)
- Reason: No over-the-air WB affiliate in market
- WBVC-TV (WB) in Traverse City/Cadillac/Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan (Max Media LLC)
- KBJR DT 6.2 (aka "Northland UPN") in Duluth, Minnesota (Granite Broadcasting)

- WTTX-LP in Elmira, New York (UPN) (Clear Channel Communications)
- Reason: No over-the-air WB affiliate in the market.
- WJZY in Charlotte, North Carolina (UPN) (Capitol Broadcasting Company)
- Reason: Tied with already-confirmed CW affiliate WUPA in Atlanta as the fifth-strongest UPN affiliate [2], [3], and a lower channel number than co-owned WB affiliate WWWB (although WWWB has been one of the 15 strongest WB affiliates in the country and Cox-owned independent WAXN may pursue the affiliation).
- WCTI-DT 12.2 (aka "UPN 48") in New Bern, North Carolina (Lamco Communications)
- Reason: No over-the-air WB affiliate in the market.
- WLFL in Raleigh, North Carolina (WB) (Sinclair Broadcast Group)
- Reason: Stronger of two stations in Sinclair duopoly (the other being UPN affiliate WRDC).
- WILM-LP (UPN) in Wilmington, North Carolina (Capitol Broadcasting Company)

- Reason: No over-the-air WB affiliate in market. WBFG, the WB affiliate in the market, is only available on cable.
- WSTR in Cincinnati, Ohio (WB) (Sinclair Broadcast Group)
- Reason: WSTR, unlike UPN affiliate WBQC, is a full-powered station.
- WWHO in Columbus, Ohio (LIN TV)
- Reason: currently carries both UPN (primary) and WB shows, was formerly owned by Viacom/CBS before last year.
- WBDT in Dayton, Ohio (WB) (ACME Communications)
- Reason: currently carries WB programming. UPN 17-6 (sister station of WHIO-TV) is cable only, making WBDT the only full power station available.
- WBCB in Youngstown, Ohio (WB) (WFMJ-TV)
- Reason: No over-the-air UPN affiliate in market. However, the channel is a sub-channel of NBC affiliate WFMJ's digital service, and is only available on cable and over-the-air HDTV service. Plus WNPA (already confirmed for CW status in Pittsburgh) and WUAB (undecided if it will become the CW affiliation in Cleveland as WBNX (The WB) has stronger overall ratings -Nielson '04 - '06, source: Broadcasting & Cable) both currently cover Youngstown.
- KTVC in Eugene, Oregon (UPN) (Equity Broadcasting)
- Reason: No over-the-air WB affiliate in the market.
- WLYH in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania (UPN) (Clear Channel Communications/SJL Broadcasting)
- Reason: No over-the-air WB affiliate in the market (though Philadelphia WB affiliate WPHL, to be Independent, has a translator in Harrisburg and cable coverage through the key parts of the market).
- WSWB in Scranton, Pennsylvania (WB/UPN) (Pegasus Broadcast Television)
- Reason: Currently carries both WB (primary) and UPN shows
- WWMP in Charleston, South Carolina (UPN) (Sinclair Broadcast Group)

- Reason: UPN currently shares WDEF-TV with CBS.

- WLMT in Memphis, Tennessee (Clear Channel Communications)
- Reason: Currently carries both UPN (primary) and WB shows
- KNVA in Austin, Texas (WB) (LIN TV)
- Reason: UPN affiliate KBEJ is based in Fredericksburg, 68 miles west of Austin; the station is viewed mostly by cable and has a weak Austin signal.

- Reason: UPN affiliate KBEJ is based in Fredericksburg, 65 miles north of San Antonio; the station is viewed mostly by cable and has a weak San Antonio signal.
- KUWB in Salt Lake City, Utah (WB) (Clear Channel Communications)
- Reason: KUWB has a stronger over-the-air signal than UPN affiliate KPNZ
- WGMU-CA in Burlington, Vermont (UPN) (Equity Broadcasting)
- Reason: WB currently shares WFFF with Fox, although there is a possibility that WFFF could make a digital subchannel for The CW it is at this point purely speculation.
- WUPV-TV in Richmond, Virginia (UPN) (Sinclair Broadcast Group/Lockwood Broadcasting)
- KSKN (WB) in Spokane, Washington (Belo Corp.)
- Reason: Although ABC affiliate KXLY was in the proccess of launching a new DT/Analog station that would have become the new home for UPN, which they picked up from KQUP in January 2006, it appears those plans have been put on hold as KXLY dropped UPN from the lineup a month later in February.
