Ettalong is a small town squeezed in along side Umina Beach and Woy Woy on the Central Coast in New South Wales, Australia.
The town faces the channel between Brisbane Water and the bay at the mouth of the Hawkesbury River.
The name Ettalong means get a drink in the native language off the indigenous tribes who inhabited the area before european settlement.
In 2005, an Outrigger Resort was opened a stark contrast to the surrounding, mainly fibro cottages, Except along the foreshore which features many modern brick houses
It has a nickname amongst locals as get-a-bong this is due to the high rate off drug use in this area, the goverment is doing many activities in order to lower this drug use. local resident Jamie Turner is well know for his attempts to combat this drug problem.
A fast ferry is currently in proposal, from Ettalong to Circular Quay in the heart of Sydney. If established, this is expected to take only 40 minutes. In contrast, the train journey from neighbouring Woy Woy takes 1 hour 15 min to the same place.
