Mike Komisarek

Mike Komisarek (January 19, 1982) is a professional ice hockey player hailing from West Islip, New York on Long Island. After two impressive seasons at the University of Michigan (CCHA), he was selected in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft (1st Round, 7th Overall) by the Montreal Canadiens. He is a defenseman and is known for his strength and physical play. He is listed at 6'4" and 240lbs. Komisarek played his first NHL game in the 2002-2003 season with the Canadiens and is currently a regular on that team's roster.

History

He began playing competitively on Long Island, NY, but soon he outgrew the competition around him. He then played for the New England Coyotes of the EJHL. He was then picked up by the United States Development Program which is operated under the jurisdiction of USA Hockey. From there he was awarded a full athletic scholarship to the University of Michigan where he played along side fellow Long Islander, Eric Nystrom, who was drafted by the Calgary Flames.
