If You come here after you receive an image source/licence notification from me, please note that: {{Promotional}} tagged images have guidelines here - Wikipedia:Publicity_photos. For proper source add the URL and photographer's name. Also the source page must have the photos in a section of a site called "media kit", "press kit", "press", or something similar. Otherwise the photo might not be promotional. Questions?

User:Gungadin and EastEnders

Hi. Last month you contributed to User talk:Gungadin about image copyright issues. I've had to tag a lot of her images today as nsd. Would you mind keeping an eye on the issue with me so I don't break any rules myself? Cheers. The JPS 12:20, 14 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Re:

You've just removed an image from Maarja Kivi citing the fair use image policy. I've re-added it. The image page now says who created it, but to be honest, it's pretty obvious. Could you in future not remove images like that from articles? You haven't even challenged the source. Esteffect 17:38, 14 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

WikiProject Books from WikiProject Novels

Nice to see someone make a bit more of an input to our parent project. I trust we can foster good a cordial relations between such related projects. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 15:46, 15 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your kind response, sorry to be so long replying - you caought me unprepared for the "Admin" thing. So I thought I should at least consider it. Short answer I think I will decline. I am member of three WikiProjects currently, very active in WikiProject Novels and less so in WikiProject Sports Olympics and WikiProject Archaeology. So I think at least for the moment this would be a distraction. Maybe later. Also not sure I want the hastle. And that is quite outside your link contents.

By the way what prompted you to include the link and suggest the "Admin" thing. Just curious! :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 18:37, 18 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

User:Shakirfan

Hello again. Looking at the history to his talk page, I see you have warned User:Shakirfan numerous times about images with dodgy sources. I've marked quite a few today as copyright violations, but he still seems to be uploading them. I've left a note asking him to abide by the rules. If he continues, how is best to proceed? Report him somewhere to get him a short block? The JPS 14:53, 16 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Since Wikipedia:Vandalism says: Repeatedly uploading images with no source and/or license information after notification that such information is required may also constitute vandalism (the wording is kind of vague; bolding by me) I would report the user to WP:ANI (for reporting and discussing incidents that require the intervention of administrators). Unfortunately the issue is complex, since there is no obvious place to report warned nsd and nld image uploaders. feydey 15:41, 16 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
Thanks' for the reply, btw (sorry didn't say 'thanks' sooner -- I got caught up with a heavy vandal). The JPS 19:00, 20 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Syracuse, New York

Just to let you know why i reverted your edit to the Syracuse page, movie posters are considered to fall under fair use when used in the english wikipedia. -- Gizzakk 12:23, 20 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hello. Regarding the Vanilla Sky poster on Syracuse, New York - I'm afraid that fair use is conditional. The tag says posters qualify as fair use "to illustrate the movie in question or to provide critical analysis of the poster content or artwork... Any other uses of this image, on Wikipedia or elsewhere, may be copyright infringement." The Syracuse article clearly does not do this. Technically, the poster shouldn't be on the Tom Cruise page either. The JPS 12:35, 20 April 2006 (UTC) [also left on Gizzak's talk page]Reply
JPS is correct, fair use images are to be used on only specific articles i.e. posters, dvd covers only on the movie articles and the Syracuse article does not fall under that fair use. feydey 17:51, 20 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Dennis Rader KSN Image

The image is from a news station in Wichita, KS. The resolution is not that good. The station is probaly copyrighted. He had a job (obviously). Since it comes from a copyrighted station, has the right license, and is in low resolution, the image is fair use and needs to go back up on the page. CubsFan2006 05:42, 22 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Image:Clement X.JPG

As I am not 100% familiar with the procedures and policies in the English Wikipedia, I thought you may be able to help me. The image Image:Clement X.JPG is tagged as {{Stamp}}. However, it was used in the article about pope Clement X. I removed the image from the article, which leaves the actual image unused at the moment. What is the policy regarding un-used fair-use images (I note Jimbo's email about a year ago stating that non-free images should no longer be uploaded)? Should they be tagged with a specific template? Is there a procedure for reporting/deleting these? Thanks ever so much for your help in advance! --Lendu 11:21, 26 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Re:time for a new RfA?

Thanks for your note on my talk page. However, I have come to the conclusion that I'm not good adminship material - I've lost a bit of interest in wiki lately, and I'm more happy to contribute to the encyclopedia than to do the janitorial work on it. Thanks for noticing, however. Sam Vimes 21:52, 28 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Images on Roman millitary tactics

Hello,

You removed a lot of my images because the licence was insufficient. I have send an E mail to the company that made the computer game in question. I know they have allowed tv series to use the game to immitate ancient battles so I think there is a good chance wikipedia will be allowed to use them as well.(I don't think that will be a problem right? If I get permission?)

I want to ask you not to delete the images or tagg them untill I have received a responds. Sander 13:20, 1 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

A landslide victory for The JPS (aka RFA thanks)

Hey, Feydey, thank you so much for your vote and comments in my RfA, which passed with an overwhelming consensus of 95/2/2. I was very surprised and flattered that the community has entrusted me with these lovely new toys. I ripped open the box and started playing with them as soon as I got them, and I've already had the pleasure of deleting random nonsense/attacks/copyvios tonight.
If I ever do anything wrong, or can help in some way, please feel free to drop me a line on my talk page, and I will do my best to correct my mistake, or whatever...
Now, to that bottle of wine waiting for me...

Hello, I am a contributer on the online and non commercial encyclopedia, http://en.wikipedia.org/. I am currently woring on an article dealing with the Roman military and I have used a number of screenshots made inside the Rome:Total War game.However... a problem arose ... The licence on wikipedia only allows me to use them for identification and critical commentary on the computer or video game in question or the copyrighted character(s) depicted on the screenshot in question.

Could you please allow me to use the screenshots for that particular article, if you like I could (visibly)mention that the screenshots are from Rome total war even more as is the case now.

Sander,

ps:To view the article untill the problem with the picture started please click on the following link. http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Roman_military_tactics&oldid=51038 707

I asked for approval of what I did on the wikipedia site about her - I guess she doesn't explicitly state the photo but it's quite clear that was infered - if there's a problem I could ask her to state it or email you directly

User:Lalalulu

Hi, just thought you might like to know that the image that you warned this user about, the one of Christina Santiago, was deleted late last week because the image is not free. It is still copyrighted by Playboy. Read his talk page and mine and you'll see that we've gone around and around on this issue before. Dismas|(talk) 00:31, 8 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, it's the same image. Dismas|(talk) 00:55, 8 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks

Thank you for your concern, however the original warning messages were placed in bad faith over a content dispute, in which the other user decided that instead of discussing the issue it would be much easier to simply label their opponent a vandal. 81.104.165.184 10:07, 8 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

D'oh!!

The IP comment on my userpage was slightly improperly moved to my talk as the IP wasn't mentioned. Therefore I was led to believe you made the comment (ok, I know that's not true) - so I commented here and kept editing the comment.

Sorry! Please be more careful and I'll do the same. —       nathanrdotcom (Got something to say? Say it.) 16:35, 8 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Re

I dont understand, the screen captures were all taken from programmes that were featured in the articles. I was told by another administrator that screen caps were ok to use in this way. The one you just removed from the eastenders artcile is entirely about the character in the screen capture, taken from that television program and about that television program. If that's not commentry about the programme's contents then i dont know what is. Gungadin 14:13, 12 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Image 6th Generation.gif

I made this image myself and have applied the proper self license to it. It matches all the other "Generational" illustrations, and I grant free use to Wikipedia and anyone else who wishes to use them. (See 1stGeneration.gif - 6th Generation.gif) Thank you for your time. GameJunkieJim 14:14, 12 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

I do not own a copyright to the original image, however I do have implied permission to use said image in original work. I do not have this in writing, as it is verbal and implied, however, I can obtain this. It's use in the specific artwork is however, my own, and not a copyrighted use of the artwork. It will likely be a few weeks before I can obtain an email for the use, as this happens to be the week of E3, and Bungie Studios has just announced Halo 3. I can cite multiple examples of the use of said images, by myself and others, on the Bungie.net and Bungie.org websites, sanctioned by Bungie, if that will be sufficient. This is a Wallpaper Section on Halo.bungie.org, An art section from the same site, a Halo 3 Art Thread (And yes, that's me). As for specific wording, the most I could find was this Microsoft does not claim ownership of the materials you provide to Microsoft (including feedback and suggestions) or post, upload, input or submit to any Bungie Web Site or its associated services (collectively "Submissions"), to the extent what you post does not include materials provided to you or otherwise owned by Microsoft or its licensees. However, by posting, uploading, inputting, providing or submitting your Submission you are granting Microsoft, its affiliated companies and necessary sublicensees permission to use your Submission in connection with the operation of their Internet businesses including, without limitation, the rights to: copy, distribute, transmit, publicly display, publicly perform, reproduce, edit, translate and reformat your Submission; and to publish your name in connection with your Submission. and that is in the Terms of Use found on Bungie.net. GameJunkieJim

Just as an illustration of the Generation. There isn't musch of a need other than aesthetic. My wish was simply to spruce up the articles for game history a bit, and I figured I could do that best with pop-iconography relevant to the Generations (I.E. 1st generation is plain, black and white, and alludes to Pong and single-dot games, 3rd Generation uses Mario and Arkanoid Bricks, 6th uses a Kinetica bike and the Master Chief, I was planning on doing maybe a Killzone character and a PGR3 car for 7thGeneration.gif, but I have not started this yet.GameJunkieJim (Forgot to sign earlier)

I do understand your reasons. I know nothing's personal, just a CYA situation, and I agree with you. I have added other things to these articles but no other images as of yet. I'm currently looking for qualifiers, as I know there is precedent for using popular culture iconography in original art, and am trying to figure out how to edit these images pages to address that. I'll abide by your deletion if it proves necessary, I just hope it doesn't, as I want to bring more attention to those pages. GameJunkieJim 15:51, 12 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Re:

thankyou, From what you say I can see where the discrepancy lies with some of the screen shots i uploaded, but not for the image i uploaded on this page - Terry Rich. The image was of the character in the show, and the entire article is about that character and television program, not about the actor per se. Gungadin 15:21, 12 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Ebooks move (renaming)

Saw this on Pegships's talk:

Please take a look, it's about books

Wikipedia:Categories_for_deletion/Log/2006_May_1#Category:Books available as ebooks to Category:Ebooks has concluded with a strange result IMHO (no consensus). Or? feydey 21:48, 12 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

  • If it helps, my vote can be changed to support the renaming. I originated the category name, and filed the strong oppose; Didn't change it after we debated the shortened name pending further voting, so should have annoted that I can live with 'eBooks' as only term in name. I stopped adding titles pending same resolution. FrankB 08:00, 13 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the message.

As you noticed I am trying to create an entry for Dow Crag which is near my home town of Coniston:

I am unsure what size of picture to upload. The current one is huge, is there as standard size? How would I add the 'enlarge' icon?

Cheers
