Extreme Rules 2014 sarà la sesta edizione del pay per view annuale offerto dalla WWE. L'evento si svolgerà il 4 maggio 2014 presso l'Izod Center di East Rutherford, New Jersey.[1]
Background
La faida tra John Cena e la The Wyatt Family è continuata e nella puntata di Raw del 14 aprile John Cena ha chiesto un match a Extreme Rules in un Steel Cage match venendo accettato da Bray Wyatt.
Nella puntata di Raw del 14 aprile viene indetto un torneo per determinare il contendente numero 1 al WWE Intercontinental Championship detenuto da Big E.
Il 7 aprile a RAW AJ Lee perde a sorpresa il WWE Divas Championship contro la debuttante Paige, mettendo così fine al suo regno di 295 giorni. Nell'edizione del 15 aprile di Main Event Tamina Snuka, la bodyguard di AJ, vince una battle royal diventando così la contendente numero 1 al Divas Title.
Nella puntata di Raw dopo WrestleMania XXX, Triple H forza Daniel Bryan a difendere il WWE World Heavyweight Championship contro di lui dopo che Bryan ha vinto il titolo la sera prima a WrestleMania XXX. Le ex guardie del corpo di Triple H ovvero lo Shield circonda Triple H e quest'ultimo viene steso da una spear di Roman Reigns terminando il match in un no contest. La settimana successiva a RAW, Triple H, Randy Orton e Batista riunificano l'Evolution attaccando lo Shield. Il 18 aprile nella puntata di SmackDown Triple H annuncia che l'Evolution affronterà lo Shield a Extreme Rules.
