Gekisou Sentai CarRanger (激走戦隊カーレンジャー, Gekisō Sentai Kārenjā), translated as Racing Squadron CarRanger, was Toei Company Limited's 20th production of the Super Sentai television series. Its footage was used in the American Power Rangers: Turbo. Carranger was unique because it was a parody of Sentai while at the same time being a Sentai series itself. Template:Spoiler
Plot
Five workers from the Pegasus Auto Garage discover Dappu, an alien from another planet. He empowers the five with the "CarMagic" power of the five legendary car constellations, transforming them into CarRangers. As Carrangers, the five battle an alien reckless driver gang and prevent them from destroying Earth.
Characters
CarRangers
"Red Racer!
Blue Racer!
Green Racer!
Yellow Racer!
Pink Racer!
The fighting message for safe driving! Racing Squadron Ca-a-a-a-arRanger!"
Colors: Red, Blue, Green, Yellow, Pink, 3 Navy Blues (if one counts SignalMan's wife and son), White, Black.
- Kyousuke Jinnai (陣内恭介 Jinnai Kyōsuke) / Red Racer (レッドレーサー Reddo Rēsā): A test driver at the Pegasus auto garage, normally only assigned to do errands and odd jobs. He was originally selfish enough to abandon his team because he wanted to drive his boss's classic car. Soon, though, he realized that he had a responsibility as Carranger leader and became very conscientious, although the role of leader sometimes gets to him and he is overwhelmed by the stress of being responsible for the team. He fell in love with Zonnette, although at first she only loved his Red Racer alter ego, and was eventually able to confess his love to her. He is a very brave, heroic man who was willing to risk his life in order to fight as Kyousuke and not Red Racer to prove his love for Zonnette.
- Car Weapon: Fender Sword
- Naoki Domon (土門直樹 Domon Naoki) / Blue Racer (ブルーレーサー Burū Rēsā): The youngest of the team, very polite. He works as a car designer at Pegasus Garage. Domon is also an animal lover. Youko had a crush on him, but was shy about it. She finally admitted it at the last episode, and he kissed her.
- Car Weapon: Muffler Guns
- Minoru Uesugi (上杉実 Uesugi Minoru) / Green Racer (グリーンレーサー Gurīn Rēsā): The oldest of the team, a bungling salesman at Pegasus.
- Car Weapon: Engine Cannon
- Natsumi Shinohara (志乃原菜摘 Shinohara Natsumi) / Yellow Racer (イエローレーサー Ierō Rēsā): A genius mechanic at Pegasus Garage, able to fix any machine in minutes. She uses a legendary wrench given to her by the owner of a garage she visited as a child, but later learns she can still fix anything without the wrench.
- Car Weapon: Side Knuckles
- Youko Yagami (八神洋子 Yagami Yōko) / Pink Racer (ピンクレーサー Pinku Rēsā): A secretary at Pegasus Garage, calculating the expenses and payroll. She is very self-conscious about her weight because she loves to eat sweets, and frequently consults magazine fortune-telling articles to predict her future. She dreams of becoming an idol someday and marrying a rich husband, and has a terrible sense of direction. Youko is in love with Naoki, but was shy about it. She admitted it in the last episode and he kissed her.
- Car Weapon: Bumper Bow
Allies
SignalMan Family
- SignalMan: An intergalactic officer assigned to Earth. He is from the Police Planet, where he left behind his wife Sigue, and son Sigtarou. He can sometimes be more of a hindrance than a help to the Carrangers, because of his intense training in the rules of traffic. He left for his homeworld to find that it was polluted by five-colored exhaust created by Exhaus to warp SignalMan's mind. Deceived that the CarRangers were behind it, he went back to Earth to perform police brutality on them. Fortunately, the CarRangers managed to restore their friend to normal.
- Signal Weapon: Signizer
- Sigue: SignalMan's wife, from whom he is seperated.
- Sigtarou: SignalMan's son.
Hazardians
Aliens from Planet Hazard, which was destoryed by the Bowzock prior to turning their attention to Earth.
- Dappu: One of the few survivors of planet Hazard, which was destroyed by the Bowzock. He is the keeper of the 'CarMagic' power, which he gives to the five Pegasus employees. The CarRangers' power is dependent on their friendship with Dappu.
- VRV Master: Known as the "Lone Wolf of Space", he appeared suddenly while Dappu was in the hibernation that his race goes into. He gave the Carrangers the VRV machines. It was later revealed that the VRV master was Dappu's father. He was addicted to milk-coffee, which was the reason why he wasn't in hibernation himself.
Others
- Radiata Fanbelt: The younger sister of Zonnette, and a huge CarRanger fan. With magic, she dons an outfit modeled after the CarRangers and calls herself "White Racer". She drives the "Radiacar" which can become a robot, but for only one minute. First aided Carrangers against the Zokurangers, able to shapeshift. Her henshin into White Racer is based on Sailor Moon's, and when the Radiacar enlarges, it's a play off of Ultraman doing so.
- Weapon: Riddle Bombs, which explode if one's foe does not know the answer.
- Tenma Family: A family involved in the Carrangers' live. The father is the owner of the Pegasus Garage where the gang works, and his son befriended Signalman.
- Chouriki Sentai Ohranger: The Carrangers or more likely Red Racer believed that Bara Moblie was good while the OHRangers were evil. After a few explanations, Red Racer realized his mistake. But OHRed was kidnapped, and the CarRangers were put through a military training course by Chief Counsellor Naoyuki Miura to see if they were good enough to pilot OHRanger Robo to the Bowzock base. After the rescue, the team finally defeats Bara Mobile, SS Statanzo, and the Special Edition Norishilon.

CarMagic Mecha
- Ranger Vehicles / RV Robo: Car-like mecha created by Dappu when he infused his CarMagic power into the Carranger's dream cars. They are normally stored at Pegasus Garage until they are needed. The five vehicles link up to form RV Robo, who uses the RV Sword as its primary weapon in its Violent Dash Cut (Gekisō Giri), where the robot "spins" while dashing towards the enemy, slashing though it repeatedly and destroying it, posing as it explodes in the background (making it the first Sentai Robo Sword Attack that does not involve an aura of energy). Also able to use the tired-shaped Radial Shield and Plugnado Spark energy blast from headlights on chest. Limbs are interchangeable with VRV Robo (Worldly Billowing-Fast Robo Special). RV Robo was destroyed in the finale, but was rebuilt again for Megaranger vs. Carranger, and it's power helped to power up GaoKing in Gaoranger vs. Super Sentai.
- Red Vehicle: Piloted by Red Racer. Race car. Forms the head and chest of RV Robo.
- Blue Vehicle: Piloted by Blue Racer. 4x4 pickup. Forms the body and upper legs of RV Robo. Attack is Regulus Beam.
- Green Vehicle: Piloted by Green Racer. Minivan. Forms RV Robo's lower right leg.
- Yellow Vehicle: Piloted by Yellow Racer. SUV. Forms RV Robo's lower left leg.
- Pink Vehicle: Piloted by Pink Racer. Compact car. Forms RV Robo's arms.
- Sirender: SignalMan's personal police cruiser that transforms into a law-enforcement robot. In its robot mode it is armed with the Wappagun ("wappa" means "ring"), a handcuff that shoots off on a chain, Siren Daggers, blades that extends from the wrists, Siren Shield, a riot squad shield, and Siren Vulcan energy beam. Another weapon is the Signal Crash energy blast, an attack similar to the RV Robo's Plugnado Spark attack. The front end becomes the lower legs (with the windshield as the feet), the rear end becomes the forearms (with the back wheels in front of the lower arms), and the back window becomes the upper back which reveals the head.
- RadiaCar Robo: The enlarged robot made from White Racer's RadiaCar. Its head somewhat resembles Hello Kitty. The front wheels become the forearms, and the back wheels from the lower legs.
- VicTrailer: A three-trailer vehicle transport that holds the Victory RV Machines (some sources say that it can alternatively carry the Ranger Vehicles) until they are needed. After releasing them, VicTrailer "stack-transforms" into a giant robot (The tractor forms the top, the first trailer becomes the middle section, and the second trailer forms the arms and the bottom section) who serves to provide its arms for VRV Robo to use as weapons in its finisher. (Despite having an appearance similar to the "base-robos" of old, and clearly having the weaponry to hold such a position, it never directly enters combat.)
- Victory Ranger Vehicles / VRV Robo: New vehicle provided by VRV Master when the RV Robo was abducted by Bowzock during Dappu's hibernation. They normally stay in VicTrailer until they are needed. They can turn into individual robots, and combine into the standard giant-robot form, VRV Robo, who uses VicTrailer's arms as its twin cannon weapons to perform the Victory Twister finishing attack where it fires both cannons at a monster. Also armed with the rarely used V Guns, small laser guns. Limbs are interchangeable with RV Robo (Worldly Billowing-Fast Robo Special). VRV and RV Robo also have a combo final attack: VRV Robo fires the Victory Twister, which is split into three by RV Robo's Violent Dash Cut. VRV Robo was destroyed in the finale, but according to Gaoranger vs. Super Sentai, V-Fire was rebuilt, but it's unknown if the others have been rebuilt as well.
- V-Fire / Fire Fighter: Piloted by Red Racer. After being destroyed in the finale, it was rebuilt just in case it would be needed again, and reappeared in Gaoranger vs. Super Sentai to help out. V-Fire's front end forms Fire Fighter's chest, revealing the head, and the rear end forms the legs, revealing the arms. Forms VRV Robo's chest and head. Stored in VicTrailer's tractor.
- V-Police / Police Fighter: Piloted by Blue Racer. V-Police's front end becomes Police Fighter's chest, revealing the head. The front wheel areas form the arms, and the rear end forms the legs. Forms VRV Robo's torso and upper legs. Stored in VicTrailer's second trailer, to V-Dozer's right.
- V-Dump / Dump Fighter: Piloted by Green Racer. V-Dump's cabin end forms Dump Fighter's back, the bucket forms the feet, and the front wheel forms the arms. Forms VRV Robo's lower right leg. Stored in VicTrailer's first trailer, to V-Rescue's left.
- V-Dozer / Dozer Fighter: Piloted by Yellow Racer. V-Dozer's front end forms Dozer Fighter's chest, the front wheel areas become the arms, and the rear end becomes the legs with the Dozer buckets as the feet, and the cockpit turns sideways. Forms VRV Robo's lower left leg. Stored in VicTrailer's second trailer, to V-Police's left.
- V-Rescue / Rescue Fighter: Piloted by Pink Racer. V-Rescue's front wheel areas form Rescue Fighter's arms, the rear end forms the legs, and the entire vehicle slits to reveal the head. Forms VRV Robo's arms. Stored in VicTrailer's first trailer, to V-Dump's right.
Villians
- Reckless Dash Emperor Exhaus (Bōsōgōtei Egujosu) (36-47) / Exhaus Super-Strong (47-48): He is the true villain of the series who hired the Bowzock to do his dirty work. His ultimate plan was to build a giant road for aliens across the Milky Way, and to destroy Earth because it was in the way of the road. He betrayed the Bowzock and took over the operation personally, only to fight the Carrangers personally when he asborbed the evil energies of the entire universe into his body to assume a fighting form, Exhaus Super-Strong. But he was fed expired imoyoukan by Gynamo and shrank to human-size and the CarRangers killed him.
- Helmedor (Megaranger vs. Carranger): A Space Biker who wanted to build a motorcycle racing ramp thought the Milky Way, a scheme similar to Exhaus. He teamed up with Shibolena and was eventually taken under her control via a magic kiss. Killed by RV Robo.
- Space Reckless-Driving Gang Bowzock (宇宙暴走族ボーゾック Uchū Bōsōzoku Bōzokku): An intergalactic biker gang with no love for the rules of traffic. Hired by Exhaus to pave the way for his highway by, blowing every planet in the way of construction. They have targeted Earth, the last of such planets, for destruction and frequently hang out at the BB Saloon, a bar in the Baribarian spacecraft.
- Gynamo: Leader of the Bowzock, and is madly in love with Zonnette. At the end of the series, he re-opened the fried-meats restaurant that he set up while Ritchiker took over the Bowzock.
- Ritchihiker (14-29) / RitchiRithcihiker (29-31): Briefly hired by Gynamo as his "Evil Consultant". Ritchihiker served as the mastermind who devised the plans to deal with the CarRangers and SignalMan. He was struck by lightning halfway through the series and gained a second form called RitchiRithchihiker. With his new power, he kicked out Gynamo and Zonette and took over as leader of the Bowzock. He piloted the Braking in both of its forms to destroy the Carrangers, but only managed to capture RV Robo before Braking was finally destroyed by VRV Robo, going in a blaze with its pilot.
- Zelmonda: Second in command of the Bowzock, and Gynamo's friend. His main weapon is a sword made up of playing cards. At the end of the series, he and Grotch help work at Gynamo's restaurant while going to elementary school for education.
- Grotch: Bowzock inventor. He is responsible for many of the weapons used by the Bowzock such as the Fattining Spray and Forgetfullness Water-Gun, as well as for picking the imoyoukan, used to make the Bowzock grow. He was the one who discovered the imoyokan by accident when he once rebelled against the Bowzock, and tried to destroy the CarRangers himself while eating at an Imocho. Fortunately, the imoyoukan he ate had expired and wore off before either him or the Carrangers could do harm to each other. At the end of the series, he and Zelmonda help work at Gynamo's restaurant while going to elementary school for education.
- Zonnette: A buxom member of Bowzock who uses her feminine wiles, and Gynamo's crush on her, for her own selfish pleasures. She fell madly in love with Red Racer after seeing him in action. As time passed she also fell for the man behind the mask. Her real name is Vanity Mirror Fanbelt, Radiata's big sister and the princess from another planet. At the end of the series, she becomes "purified" and resumed her true-form, returning to her home planet for love-therapy. She returned during the finale and talked Gynamo into teaming up with the Carrangers.
- Wumpers: The henchmen/grunts. Can shoot ink from their octopus-like mouths. They are contained in Zelmonda's jar, similar to that of aquatic pets.
- Gorotsuki: Miscellaneous Bowzock who usually just hang around the BB Saloon & never get involved much in the fighting, but four of them were chosen to become the other members of SS Paman's Zokuranger.
- Reckless Driving Squadron Zokuranger (Bousou Sentai Zookurenjaa) (25-48): Notable for being a (evil) Sentai-parody in a Sentai-parody show, and even had his own theme song - a remix of the Carranger theme.
- SS Pamaan / "ZokuRed" ("Zokkureddo") (25): Bowzock's best hero researcher. He was leader of the Zokuranger. He was killed by RV Robo while he was saying the name of his sword's final attack, which had a very long name, one that referred to several Sentai Robos' final sword attacks from previous series. He usually fought with Red Racer.
- "ZokuBlue" ("Zookuburuu") (25-48): He fought with Blue Racer.
- "ZokuGreen" ("Zokuguriin") (25-48): He fought with Green Racer.
- "ZokuYellow" ("Zokuieroo") (25-48): He fought with Yellow Racer.
- "ZokuPink" ("Zokupinku") (25-48): She fought with Pink Racer.
- Goki-Chan (41, 43): A breed of space cockroach that serves as guienapigs for Grotch's experiments. Only a few Goki-Chan that were altered by the experiments end up finghting the CarRangers. One was Bowzock's powerful dancer, able to create earthquakes with his dancing using a special device. Another was able to suck the energy out of people by kissing them.
BarriCars
Giant car-mecha.
- Nyaa BarriCar (cat) (5): Driven by Zelmonda. Was made to crash into rock wall after being distracted by Red Vehicle during RV Robo's firt formation.
- Ziyoki BarriCar (scorpion) (5): Rammed by Blue, Green, Yellow & Pink Vehicles during RV Robo's first formation.

- Norishiron 12 (37-38): Piloted by Zelmonda. Created from giant cardboard punchouts from a magazine provided by Exhaus (similar to a real magazine, TV Land, that includes punchout cardboard toys based on sentai shows) and then made real. Was beating the VRV Robo and Sirender, but retreated when its arm fell off because Grotch forgot to install an important pin. It reappeared helping the giant PP Chiipuri, but was accidentally sprayed with his youth cream and returned to its cardboard sheets before exploding.

Other
- "Hell Machine" (1): A fire truck turned into a monster by Gynamo.
Minor Bowzock
They are chosen to find the CarRangers, based on their talents, and are Bowzock's "monster of the week." When defeated, most of them eat imo-yokan, a yellow cube-shaped food made from jellied sweet potatoes to grow. It has to be from one store, Imocho, for this to happen, otherwise they shrink. As Grotch found out, out-of-date Imo-yokan from Imocho only enlarges the consumer for a short while until he reverts back to original size.

- PP Chiipuri (38): Bowzock's best make-up artist. He was used to make the owner of Imocho young again, because he thought he was getting old and was planning to close his store. Trivia
- In the Carddas trading card game Rangers Strike (released in commemoration of the Super Sentai Series' 30th Anniversary), on the illustration on Rescue Fighter's card, Rescue Fighter itself can be seen healing GaoBear and GaoPolar of Hyakujuu Sentai GaoRanger. The CarRanger's are categorized as an Over-Technology Sentai, due to the extraterrestrial origin of the team's weaponry and mecha.
- It is the first sentai to use higher technology weaponry. Also the enemies might have underestimated the might of the supernatural.
- Exhaus' plan to built a giant road across the galaxy is coincidentally similar to the beginning of "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy"
- The second robot is transported by a fortress and is much involved in battle like the Turbo Builder but did not form any very powerful robot. Ironically, TurboRanger did away with the flying fortress, this one returned it for a short time which the next sentai had no base that transported the mecha.
- As a recycled version of Turboranger, however it featured two females instead of one and fought against aliens instead of the supernatural, which left fans debating on whether Ragorn or Exhaus was more powerful.
- The voice actors Tomokazu Seki (HH Deoo), Shun Yashiro (WW Waritcho), Kaneta Kimotsuki (TT Terurin) and Naoki Tatsuta (DD Donmo) both lend their voices as Suneo Honekawa in the popluar anime series Doraemon.
- The late Shun Yashiro provided the first voice of Suneo in 1973.
- Kaneta Kimotsuki provided the second and long-running voice of Suneo from 1979 until 2005.
- Naoki Tatsuta provided the third voice of Suneo in 1985 temporally while replacing Kaneta due to some unknown reason.
- Seki Tomokazu provides the fourth and the current voice of Suneo from 2005 onward.
