The date of death cannot be correct. Alvan's last refractor, the 40 inch telescope at Yerkes Observatory, was constructed in 1896 and he was involved in the grinding and polishing the lens, and its installation in May, 1897. He died shortly after that (June 9, 1897, according to Yerkes reference). I need to fact check a bit before I edit the article page. --Gosgood 11:00, 23 Feb 2005 (UTC) (Remark revised) --Gosgood 16:19, 23 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Yes! Always,*Always* fact check before commiting to an article! I have discovered myself merging together Alvan Clark, subject of this article, and his son Alvan Graham Clark, who died shortly after completing the objective of the Yerkes instrument. --Gosgood 16:50, 23 Feb 2005 (UTC)
