The Emperor's New School is an American animated television series on the Disney Channel. This show is follow-up series to the Disney movie The Emperor's New Groove. It features all four members of the core cast (Yzma, Kronk, Pacha, and Kuzco) from the movie. In the TV series, Kuzco (the emperor on which the show and movie are based) has to pass all his classes in the kingdom's school (fittingly named Kuzco Academy) before he is able to rule again.
This show does not include all of the voice actors from the original movies. Eartha Kitt, Patrick Warburton, and Wendie Malick return as Yzma, Kronk, and Chicha (respectively), making them the only three actors to be part of all three "New" projects. J.P. Manoux reprises his role as the voice for Emperor Kuzco (as he did on the Disney Channel series "House of Mouse"), replacing David Spade, who voiced the ruler in both movies. The Buzz on Maggie star Jessica Di Cicco voices the new character Malina. Fred Tatasciore, Ben 10 voice actor of Ripjaws, voices Pacha instead of John Goodman.
In Australia, it has recently began airing as part of the Seven Network's Saturday Disney program. Seven has a long-term program supply agreement with Disney/Buena Vista.
It supposedly has a Swedish version under the title "Kejsarens Nya Skola".
Before or After?
Although some have disputed the timeline, the show comes after The Emperor's New Groove (and possibly Kronk's New Groove as well). While the series refers to Kuzco as an "Emperor to Be", meaning he is, perhaps, younger in the series (in the original movie, he is 18), many more items point to the more commonly held view.
Firstly, given the fact that Kronk has also enrolled in the school, there is no reason to fix Kuzco's age at younger than 18. Secondly, Pacha met Kuzco in the movie and would not know him in the series if it came before the movies.
Also, it has been said that Kuzco Academy is a college, and the reason Kuzco is not the emperor is because a rule was found stating that Kuzco must finish school in order to become the emperor.
The first episode, Rabbit Face, features Pacha's entire family, including baby Yupi. Chicha was pregnant with Yupi during the first movie, firmly placing the entire series afterwards.
The episode Peasant for a Day sets most of these issues straight also. Kronk states explicitly that Kuzco is not an Emperor (although the behavior of certain other characters throughout the series holds some degree of reverence towards him still), and Malina tells him that he is merely a villager, despite his attitude and ego. As a villager, he wears his poncho with a llama motif, given to him by Chicha at the end of the first movie. The episode refers Kuzco having fired Yzma in the past, and three of Kuzco's animal transformations, including a llama, again as in the first movie. This transformation would come to be referenced in a number of other episodes, such The Mystery of Micchu Pachu.
Kuzco Fever briefly deals with how Kuzco came to live with Pacha and his family, showing that Kuzco is completely cut off from his luxurious lifestyle until he finishes school. However, it is not entirely accurate that Kuzco has been removed from power pending his graduation from the academy. He still has some access to the palace guards, and, in Cart Wash, he fires (and later re-hires and fires again) the royal chartmaker for stimulating his conscience. However, it is frequently made clear that if he should fail to graduate of his own accord (a loophole that Yzma continuously tries to exploit), he will lose all eventual rights to the throne.
It is also possible to state that the show is based after the movies, since Malina was never seen in the movies. It's also possible that it happened after The Emperor's New Groove but before Kronk's New Groove.
It is likely that the series and Kronk's New Groove are two separate continuities. In the series, Kronk is still working for Yzma and is single, but in Kronk's New Groove he retires as Yzma's lackey and gets married.

Major Characters
- Kuzco : Kuzco is an "emperor-to-be" that must pass all of his classes at the Kuzco Academy to become ruler. Kuzco bought and funds the school. He is extremely self centered and has a crush on Malina, whom he often refers to as a "hottie hot hottie and sometimes says "no touchie". He is often naive and oblivious to many things. He has problems paying attention when someone is talking to him. He is generally ignorant of the facts but could be considered clever in other respects.
- Yzma : The emperor's advisor who wants to take over the palace and become empress. She constantly tries to fail Kuzco and is disguised as Principal Amzy(Yzma backwards) at the Kuzco Academy. A running gag with this identity comes from Kronk's inability to remember that she and Principal Amzy are one and the same. Yzma sometimes is forced to help Kuzco. She also has trouble with making straight A to B plans.
- Kronk Pepikrankenitz : Yzma's assistant and partly Kuzco's friend. He is supposedly much dumber than Kuzco, but spontaneously shows intellect. He often forgets things (such as consistently pulling the wrong lever to the "not so secret" lab) and gets carried away, resulting in him leaving the subject rediscussed. In The Emperor's New Groove, Kronk's age is late-twenties and is disguised as a student despite this. Kuzco constantly calls Kronk "a meathead".
- Malina : A popular, stereotypical, headstrong, 'A+' average cheerleader, who is one of Kuzco's best friends. Kuzco has a crush on her, which he shows openly. (He has called her a "hottie hot hottie" many times.) Several times she has shown she might like Kuzco, but this is still unknown. She helps him out frequently. Malina sometimes becomes blinded by success and turns selfish and greedy. One day, when they graduate, Kuzco is going to make her his Empress. At times she seems to fawn over Kronk. She is extremely driven to excel.
- Pacha : Pacha is one of Kuzco's best friends and always supports Kuzco on his road to become emperor. He's like a father to Kuzco. He and his family took Kuzco in when he had nowhere else to go. He plays a much smaller role in the show than the movie.
- Mr. Flaco Moleguaco : Kuzco's short tempered (and short in height) teacher. He often finds Kuzco annoying and also tries to play on his weaknesses. He also threatens to fail Kuzco quite often.
- Bucky : The squirrel that makes various appearances in the show. He made a first appearance in the The Emperor's New Groove and a second one in Kronk's New Groove. He dislikes Yzma and is good friends with Kronk. He was also Kuzco's tutor in the episode Squeakend at Bucky's.
- Chicha : Pacha's loving wife. Made appearances on The Emperor's New Groove and Kronk's New Groove. She's like a mother to Kuzco. She also took Kuzco in when he had nowhere to go just like Pacha. She now gives Kuzco money if he does chores according to Gold Fools.
- Chaca, Tipo, and Yupi : Pacha and Chicha's children. Made previous appearances in both movies. Chaca is the oldest, Tipo is in the middle, and Yupi is the youngest. Chaca is voiced by Jessie Young. Tipo is voiced by Shane Baumel. Yupi is voiced by Tara Strong in The Yzma that Stole Kuzcoween.
- The Royal Record Keeper : Was previously seen in the first movie with blue clothes seeking a suitable bride for Kuzco. Now he wears red clothes and keeps track of Kuzco's record in school. He also reminds Kuzco that he is cut off from royal funds when Kuzco forgets. He also knows all the rules about royal things. Such as the rule that lets Kuzco access royal funds only if he is stricken with an ailment to ensure his health.

Goofs and Trivia
This article contains a list of miscellaneous information. |
- The classic gag involving Kronk and Yzma trying to get to the secret lab returns from the movie. When Yzma yells "Pull the lever Kronk!", something happens to Yzma such as a large pot falling and trapping her. There is one instance where actually nothing happens when Kronk pulls the lever, so Yzma says "Want to take the stairs?" Another instance is when Kronk pulls the lever and the fire alarm rings. The students run out of the school. Yzma says on the intercom "False alarm! False alarm! Back to your rooms, you pinbrains." In another episode Malina and Kronk are following Kuzco and Malina says "Pull the vine, Kronk!" A jar falls onto Malina and Kronk then says "That happened to Yzma before".
- Kuzco's name is modeled after the Incan city, Cuzco.
- Another running gag is the presence of anachronisms, such as calculators, backpacks, and an ATM. Although some episodes will feature simplified versions of modern inventions (such as the Security Cam which happens to be a security guard named Cam who hangs from a rope and observes everything).
- Bucky the squirrel from the first movie appears in most episodes in one way or another. If the episode is a double-bill, he may appear in one part or both.
- The city of Micchu Pachu in the episode "The Mystery of Micchu Pachu" is obviously a parody of the ancient city of Machu Picchu.
- In the intro to "Kuzcogarten"/"Evil and Eviler", Kuzco mentions that the show should have a title like "That's So Kuzco", "Kuzco of the Past", or "Kuzcossible". This is a reference to That's So Raven, Phil of the Future, and Kim Possible, shows that air alongside The Emperor's New School on the Disney Channel.
- A running gag (started in The Emperor's New Groove) is that in many episodes, a bug walks by and a chimpanzee eats it. Often a character will comment, "What's with the Bug and the Monkey?". In one episode, when they are not there, Kuzco asks where they were.
- Malina, Kuzco and Kronk are the only characters who appear in all the episodes
- Yzma doesn't appear in the episode Girls Behaving oddly and Clash Of The Familys
- The Fourth Wall is often broken by the cast.
- In the episode "The Mystery of Micchu Pachu", Yzma's first plan to scare Kuzco away from Micchu Pachu is to wait until the day after Halloween and buy all the masks at half price. In the episode "The Yzma that Stole Kuzcoween", there is no Halloween. This is either a mistake or Kuzcoween comes before Micchu Pachu in the storyline.
- The episodes may have been aired out of order like the episodes of American Dragon: Jake Long, also created by Jeff Goode. In The Mystery of Micchu Pachu, Kuzco introduces Kavo. However, in The Big Fight, which was aired before The Mystery of Micchu Pachu, Kavo is already a known character.
- Many Walt Disney movies were parodied in this show such as Pinocchio, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, The Fox and the Hound, and Aladdin.
