The Antarctic Muon And Neutrino Detector Array is a neutrino telescope buried under approximately 1500 meters to 1900 meters of ice at the Antarctic ice cap. Known as AMANDA-II, AMANDA is make up of an array of 680 optical modules, spread out in an atom like circle 200 meters wide. AMANDA measures muons by detecting the Cherenkov radiation emitted by the muons, which come from a neutrino's collision with an oxygen atom, allowing AMANDA to deduce where the neutrino was. The purpose of AMANDA is to detect these neutrinos to recieve a scan of the ___location of the neutrinos, and thus allow scientists to pinpoint high-neutrino emitting objects for further analysis.
