Infobox Scottish island‎

Wishing you a 'Happy New Year' from Scotland. There is a mildly amusing discussion at Template talk:Infobox Scottish island‎ which you may have something useful to say about regarding the shortcomings of Haswell-Smith's list. Right to vanish

Hello do you think that you could remove everything from my previous username (User:Julian Diamond) so that it just appears as a generic "Former user-#" [1].

The old talk page can already be found on my current talk page. I guess I really don't want my real name to appear anywhere on wikipedia, especially since I often edit controversial articles.- Moshe Constantine Hassan Al-Silverburg | Talk 20:24, 6 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thank you

Category:Social Democratic Federation members

Thanks for helping populate Category:Social Democratic Federation members. (I just created it a few hours ago so I was surprised to see how quickly it's filled up!) I'm creating biographies of some notable Socialist Party of Great Britain founders, most of whom were previously members of the SDF, so the category will be slowly growing… —Psychonaut 21:43, 8 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Change names

Hi, I am sorry to bother you, but the queue to change user names keeps on increasing and increasing with very little action being taken. If possible, could you please look on that? Thanks --Alonso 21:52, 9 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the name change. I don't seem to be ables to recreate the old account - I get a message saying the name is to similar to the old account name (not surprising).--Peta 03:06, 10 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks!!!

Thanks for changing my user name. Feeling great now... loveisblind | Talk

I add to that. Thanks, for the same reason. JimboB 02:35, 11 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

UK Workers Revolutionary Party members

Are you including SLL and Club members who were not in the WRP in that Category? I'm not sure that's right. I've removed Lawrence; perhaps I would also cut Fryer. --Duncan 16:07, 10 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Rename

Thanks for changing my username for me. I know you've already gotten a lot of thanks from other people but, for what it's worth, thanks again. I wish you a great Wikipedia experience.

PS any suggestions on what to create new articles on? I can't seem to find any red links and the wanted page is down.

Thanks again Mr.Morose 21:22, 10 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

New Articles

Actually, Warofdreams, you helped me a lot. I was taking a look through the articles that you created and saw Pass the parcel. I followed that and found that there was no article on "Silent ball" yet so I created one. Of course, it's not near finished (as you will see). Thanks though Mr.Morose 22:52, 10 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

PS feel free to add to it. A picture would really help.

name change

Could you please change my name because you skipped o'er me and now I'm probably going to be forgotten? I've finally chosen a name I like now and I'm pretty sure I won't want another name change later. -Teofil Bartlomiej 00:19, 11 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Reg. WP:CHU

Hello! I had recently placed a request at WP:CHU to have my username changed. However my request was denied saying that the account was already taken. I'm confused about the discrepancy between this and this. Can a user exist without having been marked in the user creation log? I'd really appreciate if you could explain this to me. Thank you.--thunderboltz(Deepu) 13:55, 11 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Comoros

Hi Warofdreams, Dmcdevit, who has vastly expanded the Comoros article the past few days, has run through his sources and asked me if I can help with further improvement, especially of the Culture section. I'm not aware of any Comorian editors; the closest I can think of is your work in Madagascan topics so it figured it was worth seeing if you had a stack of books on Comoros sitting at your side. SDF archives

Since you're involved in editing SDF-related articles, I thought I'd let you know that I have access to all the issues of Justice from 1896 to 1902, plus several other SDF documents (letters, pamphlets, election manifestoes, etc.) from around that time period. I don't know if this sort of stuff is typically available in public libraries, so if not and you need me to scan or look anything up for you, don't hesitate to ask. —Psychonaut 18:04, 15 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Template:Africa topic

Hi,

You reverted an edit that I had made to Template:Africa topic. I thought that the change I had made was relevant. There's no 'Public holidays in Mauritius' article (so its a red link), but it can be found as a sub-section of Culture of Mauritius. I don't understand the template very well, so could you make any changes that are necessary to point to the relevant subsection?

Roger Protz in Peter Taaffe article

Hi Thought I would ask your opinion on an issue in the article on Peter Taaffe, as it relates to something I think you posted there, ref Roger Protz, before I proceed to perhaps post something on the Taaffe entry dicussion page or on the article.

If you're not bothered and want me to just go straight there, or do the edit, that's fine.

On the first issue of the Militant, above the editorial, it says

MILITANT

Editor: PETER TAAFFE (Walton Young Socialists)

All correspondance to the business manager:

S. Mani, 40 Stapleton Road, London S.W. 17

The minutes of the meeting of the RSL which agreed to set up the Militant, as outlined below, are available in Militant's archives.

I would like to suggest something along the lines of the following text:

Current article has

Taaffe joined what was then the Revolutionary Socialist League, led by Ted Grant, in the early 1960s and became the second editor (after Roger Protz) of its publication, Militant when it was launched in 1964. Eventually, the group became known by the name of the paper, and was either referred to as Militant or the Militant Tendency.

Replace with:

Taaffe joined what was then the Revolutionary Socialist League (RSL), led by Ted Grant, in the early 1960s. In 1964 Grant, Arthur and Jimmy Dean, Keith Dickenson, and others on the executive of the RSL decided to launch the Militant newspaper.

Peter Taaffe, who lived in Liverpool at that time, was appointed editor, Roger Protz, who lived in London where the paper was to be produced, and who had experience working on a magazine, was appointed technical editor. A business editor and sub editors were appointed. Taaffe's task was to change the whole approach of this small group towards the working class. At that time Trotskyists and Communists tended to speak in an idium which was quite inaccessible to ordinary workers. Taaffe's task was to speak in the language of the "Labour and trade union movement".

In 1965 Taaffe moved to London to work full time on the Militant, despite a serious shortage of money: “I was compelled first of all to sleep on the floor of a supporter in Balham.. . once or twice spending sleepless nights in the entrances of subways” (The Rise Of Militant, p11)

Eventually, the group became known by the name of the paper, and was either referred to as Militant or the Militant Tendency.

etc...

---

I wonder what you think? This is a sketch, anyway, of an entry. I could substantiate the matter a little further I believe.

Perhaps you saw a reference which said, "Taaffe only moved down to London in 1965, Protz edited the Militant before that". This would be half right, insofar as Protz was the technical editor, but it is misleading. Taaffe was appointed editor at the start, because of his work in Liverpool, and it was indeed essentially Taaffe's project, his goal.

Just FYI, it was always said that Ted Grant, who never liked the name Militant for the paper, only reluctantly acquiessed in the whole project. "Militant" was Taaffe's choice, and the Liverpool lads on the RSL exec, Arthur and Jimmy Dean in particular, and Keith Dickenson, won the day. Grant favoured "Socialist Appeal."

Anyway, if you have any opinions on the matter, please let me know. Someone tells me Roger Protz was employed working on a magazine called New Society at the time, (a bourgois liberal publication) which later merged with the New Statesman, but I can't back that up. Perhaps you have some info on this?

CHU

Hey, since you seem to be the bcrat I thought I'd leave you a note. :) First of all there were a few malformed requests you turned down because they were, well, malformed. I tried to fix them up and if you could revisit them at some point it would be appreciated by the users requesting the changes, I'm sure. Also, I don't mean to badger, but I have a CHU request on there too which is noncontroversial and the name should be available. If you could give it a look, it'd be appreciated. Taaffe, Protz, clean-up?

Hi Thanks for your remarks on my page!

Do you think we have done enough to effect a clean-up?

In the Taaffe discussion I've suggested a draft of other material to help the "clean up" along the lines of the discussion - more references to Taaffe and achievements, to place in perspective the open turn split. I hope strictly NPOV stuff.

I wonder what you think? I don't think the original indicated in the slightest the historical legacy which is associated with the Militant, of which some mention, if only breif, is necessary in a biography of its founder and long time editor. But probably could do with much improvement.

You menion the Roger Protz entry but it says "Founding editior of the Militant". Maybe insert "technical" or perhaps "alongside Peter Taaffe" Not vital.

30 Jan - further references addded to Taaffe addition proposal in discussion page, POV in first para removed.

Hi! In the party affiliations of the above constituency page, I introduced "Anti-Parnellite Nationalist" from 1890. You've changed it to INF. Whilst the point is a trivial one, as both designations can be considered correct, he was Anti-Parnellite from 1890, but he was INF from 1891, to be strictly accurate we'd need to introduce a row for December 1890 - March 1891 which seems like overkill when one row will do. I'm not going to amend your edit but thought I would mention this to you in case you wanted to rethink the change. DrKiernan 08:24, 31 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
