Template editor

I previously requested this permission about a month ago because it would make it easier me to perform useful edits to templates, but my request was rejected due to lack of experience. Now that I have more experience requesting edits to protected templates, it is appropriate for me to request this permission again. Partofthemachine (talk) 21:12, 18 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

No, I declined because of a lack of need, which I still find to be true (but will leave open for review). Just as a note, this was declined a month ago (16 January 2023) and since then there have been two TPERs - asking for a wikilink to be added and adding a line of code to a college link template. User is clearly still able to edit the Template space given the ~100 edits made in the last month to non-TPE-protected templates. Primefac (talk) 21:47, 18 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
There have actually been a few more edit requests, but they are in the Wikipedia talk namespace. Partofthemachine (talk) 22:32, 18 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Just to insert myself into others business as an editor of everything but articles: The edits to WT space (as well as the two template talk space 1, 2) are simple link updates and are minimal changes. This advanced permission requires care and attention, which can be best shown through the guideline requirements and an assessment of "need" to show a user can both edit advanced templates correctly and have the self control to not edit where their knowlede is lacking. Which is why I see the requirement of advanced sandbox edits (checked against testcases) as a vital requirement of this user right, which has not significantly changed since the last request. The editor should demonstrate both a need and a willingness to edit complex template code that includes parameters, conditional statements, and other elements that can cause pages with template transclusions to break in spectacular ways. The template editor permission is all-or-nothing. I've had it for years, and I still spend a lot of time on sandbox pages and testcases pages. – Jonesey95 (talk) 02:20, 19 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Not done I agree with Primefac that I don't see a need for this user right. Salvio giuliano 13:05, 19 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
