Pawan Kalyan (born September 2, 1971[1]) is a popular Indian film star and director in Andhra Pradesh. He is fondly called as Power Star by his fans.His birth name is Konidala Kalyan.
Early career
Pawan Kalyan entered telugu movie industry with the movie Akkada Abbai Ikkada Ammayi as Kalyan Babu. This film did not do well at the box office.However, he was noticed for his Martial Arts stunts.
Career
After his first movie, Kalyan started to chose his stories. His second movie Gokulamlo Sita was an average gainer but his next movies like Suswagatham, Tholi Prema, Thammudu, Badri, and Kushi went on to become blockbusters which earned him a great reputation. Kushi was a trend setter and has been received well both commercially and critically. This film has given him lot of confidence which lead for a big leap in his professional career towards direction and screenplay.
Toliprema
This film is generally referred as turning point in his career.It is love story,where the hero loves heroine,but does not express his feelings towards her as she is very determined with her academics,the climax of the film shows the heroines love for the hero.This film helped new comedian Venu Madhav to make his mark in Tollywood.
Thammudu
After the suprise blockbuster Toliprema,many were eagerly awaiting for the his next film.Pawan's next film was Thammudu.This film was loosely inspired from Aamir Khan's film "Jo Jeeta wohi Sikandar",where he plays a character called "Subbu" who is very casual towards life and does not show intrest in academics,He plays the role of a brother,the film is about winning the Kick-boxing championship which was his fathers dream,which his elder brother could not accomplish it.The comedy scenes delivered by Kalyan are very good.The love track is also very intresting,the love and action are perfectly mixed in this film.Success of this film earned him many fans all over Andhra Pradesh.
Badri
After the sucess of Thammudu,the next film of Pawan Kalyan was Badri.Puri Jaggannadh made his debut as director with this film.The story of the film is about a guy who is unable to decide whom should he marry as he falls in love with another girl unknowingly.Initially the film was rated as an above average but later it became to be one of the hits of Pawan Kalyans career.The highlight of this film was the cowboy costume by Pawan Kalyan in the song "Yeh Chikita".
Kushi
Kushi is considered as the biggest hit of Pawan Kalyan."One-Man-Show" is the apt word that describes the role of Pawan Kalyan in this film.The fights in this film are composed by Pawan Kalyan himself.His dialogue delivery and modulation is impeccable.This film shows the ego feelings between the lovers. PC Sreeram's photography is excellent.He directed 2 songs in the film and costumes for Pawan Kalyan are mangaed by his girl friend Renu Desai.This film is known for its screenplay and is considered as one of the greatest films of Tollywood.
After Kushi
After Kushi, Kalyan had five more releases Johnny, Gudumba Shankar ,Balu ABCDEFG and Bangaram and annavaram. None of these movies could live up to the expectations and didn't do well at the Box Office. The movies collected money as Pawan's fans generally tend to watch any movie that is offered to them even if it is only a series of pictures of Pawan kalyan, which proves the stamina of Kalyan. Pawan Kalyan ventured into direction with the movie Johnny. The movie earned him a bad name in direction. Nevertheless Pawan never gives up, and is directing satyagrahi. Pawan Kalyan is presently doing a film with Trivikram Srinivas.This movie though as of now is far from media hype but his fans have many expectations on this movie because Trivikam's dailogues and screenplay are generally considered to be of high quality and with Pawan Kalyan uttering them will be a real feast for the fans. But pawan has huge fan following after his brother chiru, he has following in allover south, kolkatta and Japan. Its high time for Pawan Kalyan to give a blockbuster.
Personal Life
Kalyan first got married to Nandini,after some time they both got seperated due to personal reasons.Pawan Kalyan fell in love with Renu Desai who was his co-star in the movie Badri.The couple have a son named Akira ,named after his favorate director Akira Kurosawa
Controversy
Nandini from North Andhra has filed for maintenance from Kalyan.He met Nandini in Vizag when he was in Satyanand's acting school and eventually got married in 1997.This marriage was not highly publicized like other Tollywood celebrities marriages.Their marriage didnt workout and they have seperated without seeking legal divorce.Nandini filed for Rs.5 Lakhs($10,000 - 15,000 USD) for the maintenance retrospectively.[1]
