Yildirum previously played for the Go Ahead Eagles. He decided to play for the Dutch, having being born to Turkish parents in the Netherlands. His first (and so far only) cap came in a game against England in February 2005.

In 2005, Yildirim participated in a free kick tournament held in Marbella, beating out players such as Zinedine Zidane.[1]

Before February 2005, he was eligible to play for either the Dutch or Turkish national football teams. In February 2005, he opted to play for the Netherlands, rather than Turkey, although Turkey coach Ersun Yanal offered him a place in his team. Yildirim has not hidden the fact that is a fan of Galatasaray. [citation needed]
