Isarago zaka

Isarago zaka (伊皿子坂) is a slope which exists between 4 chome of Mita, and 2 chome of Takanawa in Minato-ku, Tokyo, Japan.

Geographical feature

It goes up the slope of Tuki no Misaki 「月の岬」from the direction of Sengakuji「泉岳寺」, and is connected with Gyoranzaka 「魚藍坂」on a summit. People could overlook the Edo bay from this slope at the Edo period. The residence of Takamatunomiya「高松宮邸」exists near this.

The origin of the name

The origin of a name is as follows. The Chinese whose name is Inpeisu lived here a long ago. Inpeisu changed to Isarago, and the slope name termed Isarago zaka(=Isarago slope).

History

In Meiji Era, The Takayama dental school 「高山歯科医学校」(predecessor of Tokyo Dental College「東京歯科大学」) existed near the Isarago crossing (Mita 4 chome 18).
