Bastion Misawa, known in Japan as Daichi Misawa (三沢 大地 Misawa Daichi), is a fictional character in the anime series Yu-Gi-Oh! GX (Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters GX in Japan).

Bastion Misawa (Daichi Misawa in the Japanese version) is a first-year student who takes a highly mathematical approach to every duel.

Character

Bastion Misawa is a first-year student like Jaden Yuki (Judai Yuki), but he is in the Ra Yellow dorm. This is because he was #1 in the examinations, and generally regarded as the best newcomer student. He and Jaden first met in the examinations, where Jaden referred to Bastion as "#2", and himself as "#1". After seeing Jaden defeat Dr. Vellian Crowler (Cronos de Medici), Bastion himself agrees to these names.

Bastion is a highly analytical duelist, having covered his cards and the walls of his room with endless numerical formulas. He believes everything in life can be mathematically calculated, and has even covered his baseball bat with equations. Underneath his jacket, he has a special vest that holds six different dueling decks, one for each element (Fire, Earth, Wind, Water, Light, Dark). He changes decks accordingly depending on his opponent.

Bastion is generally represented as an antithesis to Jaden, who duels completely on instinct and force. They have been rivals since they met, and their conflict has generally been depicted as a battle between a tiger (Bastion) and a dragon (Jaden). After defeating Chazz Princeton (Jun Manjoume) in a public duel, he is offered entrance to the Obelisk Blue dorm, but declines, saying he can not truly be called the number one duelist of the school unless he defeats Jaden Yuki. He builds a seventh deck, which tries to seal certain cards so that an opponent will not be able to summon most of his or her monsters. Bastion uses the seventh deck against Jaden, sealing the use of Polymerization, therefore not letting Jaden use his stronger monsters, as the Elemental Heroes are not strong by themselves. Even though Jaden does not use Fusion Gate, Jaden still wins.

Bastion Misawa's English voice is done by Eric Stuart. Bastion has a British accent in the dub.

Card list

Bastion Misawa has 6 decks, each based on an element, and a special 7th deck made to defeat Jaden. Each deck runs on a specific theme, with Water's theme being a fusion of the elements (Hydrogen and Oxygen) to form Water, and Earth's theme manipulating plus and minus electronegativity. Only two of his decks have been revealed thus far, although in the first opening sequence he is depicted to have a fire monster equal to the counterpart of Water Dragon.
