There seems to be some IT industry confusion as to the different specific definitions of "recovery”, "salvaging" or “rescuing” of data. Corporations such as IBM, SUN, HP, Sungard, Ironmoutain and others define it as the process of "accessing and retrieving data from network storage devices" while smaller organizations and companies like Ontrack and DriveSavers who specialize in the niche market of rescuing data from failed storage devices also have coined such services as "Data Recovery".
