Template:Infobox Perth Road Marmion Avenue is a major arterial road in Perth, Western Australia. It runs through the northern coastal suburbs of Perth from the end of West Coast Highway in Karrinyup to the newly devloped areas of Butler & Jindalee. It's speed limit is 80 Kilometres/Hour, 70 Kilometres/Hour Past Hester Avenue. It is State Route 71. It is a Highway Grade road, being Dual Carrdigeway the entire way through, and of two lanes each way until the last few kilometres. It Generally tracks a kilometre or two in from the Coastline, being an important link to Fremantle and to the outer northern suburbs.

History

Marmion Avenue was first created as an arterial road that tracked the then new northern suburbs of Perth. Its namesake, the suburb of Marmion is where the road started in the Late 1960s. It was single carrdigeway until the early 1980s, when it was linked to the West Coast Highway and dualled up to Whitfords Avenue. It was gradually extended as a Single Carrdigeway road as the northern suburbs grew. It was initially an arterial road between suburbs, extending from Warwick Road to Mullaloo Drive. It was then extended to Ocean Reef Road, Shenton Avenue, Burns Beach Road and then in the Mid 1990s fully extended to Quinns Rock. Marmion Avenue was completely dualled in 2001, with the last bit being the empty stretch between Burns Beach Road & Quinns Rock.

It has always being an important road for people living in the northern suburbs, as it is the main arterial for northern coastal suburbs up to Joondalup and the main road above Joondalup. It is generally reffered to by locals as just "The Marmion" or as "Marmion Av".

Future Extensions

At Present, Marmion Avenue is long overdue to be fully extended & completed. It was due to be constructed as a single carridgeway to Yanchep in 2004. The extended stretch will finish at the large roundabout at Yanchep Beach Road This is now due to be completed in Late 2006 due to approval delays.

The completion will allow the future Satelite City of Alkimos, Western Australia/Eglinton, Western Australia to start construction. Currently the extension is being delayed due to government bickering of what route the road should follow. This extension will be done all in one go and at finish will have no intersections past its present terminus, just serving as a link to a growing Yanchep. Extensions after this are possible to Two Rocks, however there are no plans for this at present.

Major Intersections

Marmion Avenue starts at the end of West Coast Highway at the Karrinyup Road intersection in Trigg, and currently ends at the Kingsbridge Boulevard & Jindalee Boulevard Junction in Butler/Jindalee. All Major intersections are controlled by traffic lights, or in some cases very large roundabouts.
