In computing, a software development environment (SDE) is the entire environment (applications, servers, network) that provides comprehensive facilities to computer programmers for software development.

An SDE can contain but is not limited to:

  • Design modeling tools
  • Documentation generation tools
  • Integrated development environment (IDE)
  • Code Analysis tools
  • Code Referencing tools
  • Code Inspection tools
  • Software Building tools (Compile, Link)
  • Source Repository (Configuration Management)
