Hi there, I'm taking a Wikibreak till the 5th of April. I know it's a bit long but I can't help it! My big brother Alan wouldn't even lend me his laptop(cause he thinks that i'll destroy it!). So there you go...no chance of even visiting Wikipedia! If you still want to leave me a message, that'll be great. I love it when my talk page is full of (good)messages.--Victoria Eleanor 14:59, 12 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Football article improvement drive

A United fan from Leeds? That must get interesting...

I just wanted to let you know that when voting for articles there's no need to change the nomination date as it's supposed to stay the same. It's on there to help people work out if the article has had the 3 votes a week that it needs to stay on. CTOAGN (talk) 16:02, 15 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Joining Projects

Hi! You asked me how to become a member of various associations such as Wikipedia:WikiProject_Indian_cinema . . . in most cases, it is simple . . . just visit the Project Page and then look to see if there are any requirements for the members, and check to see if you meet them, and if you do, then add yourself to the list. the managers of the project will then usually visit your talk page and add an information portal and how to get started. Many projects have no particular requirements other than user interest. So feel free to add yourself to a list and talk with the other members and that's basically all there is to it! If you need more assistance, please feel free to ping me. I will answer here on your talk page if you like. Arundhati bakshi 16:25, 17 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Tom Chaplin

i'm trying to do this Tom Chaplin page

Do you need help? Arundhati bakshi 16:52, 17 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
Well yeah....Tom chaplin's the singer for the band Keane and when you click on Tom chaplin in the Keane article, it gets redirected and the keane page comes up again and not the tom chaplin article.--Victoria Eleanor 16:55, 17 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
That's because the Tom Chaplin page is a redirect page . . . it will redirect you to the Keane page. What you need to do is edit the Tom Chaplin page itself and get rid of the redirect and add your info. Click here to do this. Arundhati bakshi 17:00, 17 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Userboxes

You can learn all that you need to now on Userboxes here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Userboxes -- its best not to overuse them, but they can convey information about you to others very quickly and visually. There is some discussion about getting rid of some of the political ones, so you may want to avoid using those. You may copy the format and templates that I have used on my userpage (I have them in a table) and add them to yours, then you will want to edit the page and alter the userboxes to suit your own preferences after reading about the various categories available. Please let me know if you need any more assistance. You can test it out on your Sandbox if you like. Arundhati bakshi 18:08, 17 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Football AID 19 February - 25 February

Thank you for participating in the Football AID vote this week.

Football (soccer) has been selected as this week's collaboration. Please do help in working to improve it.

Hello...

Hello,

I was browsing the "Wikipedians interested in electronics" category for new entries and I chanced upon your page. Good to see that you have very good knowledge of Hindi & Marathi. Rohitbd 08:51, 21 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi....

Great to hear about somebody who's into electronics completely!!!!!I'm basically into Indian Culture and History. And gosh, India's history is really vast!--Victoria Eleanor 14:48, 21 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I am (perhaps not that) completely into electronics. And its such bliss to be a musician, isn't it? I can't imagine myself doing anything more than "bathroom singing" let alone play any instrument :-) Rohitbd 14:56, 21 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Barnstars

To award a Barnstar, read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Barnstars and then take the template for the type of Barnstar you wish to award and paste the code on that person's talk page. You can fancy it up by using the "frame" parameter as you can with all images, which is how I usually see them placed on a page, with your own text for the reason for the award. Just grab the template you want and paste away! If you need more help let me know.

(Arundhati Bakshi (talkcontribs)) 13:35, 24 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thank you so much for the barnstar! I didn't know that you meant to award one to me! :) Thanks again! (Arundhati Bakshi (talkcontribs)) 19:12, 25 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

by the way... we decided to call ourselves Cosa Nostra....

Thanks!

Hi Victoria!

Just a quick note to say thanks for the barnstar, and also for supporting my (doomed) RfA. Regarding the latter... it is pretty frustrating how bad the re-submission is looking considering that the first one was one hour away from passing! Never mind - it has been a good experience and illustrates that adminship is not for those with a clear personal views about the way things work!

Anyway - many thanks once again, and hopefully we'll be in touch! DJR (Talk) 16:28, 27 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thank you...

Re: Uploading Difficulty

To upload a file, save the file to your hard drive under a suitable name. Then naviagte to Special:Upload and under "Source filename", click the browse button and select the file that you wish to upload. The "Destination filename" will likely then be filled in for you (this mainly does things like get rid of spaces and lowercase CamelCase names). Next, you have the "Summary (author, source URL,

, etc.)" box. If you did not create the imageor information needs to be added about author copyright, the URL where you got it, etc., add it here. You can leave this blank if you choose. Lastly, and most importantly is the Licensing info. You may use an image most often as fairuse or logo, or webpage screenshot (Note: this is *only* for software or webpage screenshots, not isolated photos on a web page.) Read through the copyright section a choose the correct one. Then upload the file.

If your image does not have the right copyright info, it will usually be deleted quickly.

So be sure to get that information right and to make sure you have the legal right to use that image. if you need more help, let me know. Before uploading, take a look at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Image_copyright_tag -- they explan copyright pretty good there. Images

Hello VE. the images that you asked me of look perfectly Ok, provided you used the correct license. And don't worry, you will not be blocked about uploading copyrighted images (unless it becomes obvious you are doing it to vandalise the place -- I would stand up for you since you asked first). They would just be deleted and you would be notified. Don't take it personally, as I have made errors like this myself.

Just remember if you get if from a website, it is almost certainly copyrighted -- then you will need permission. If the photographer releases all rights, then it can be in the public ___domain. If it is a promotional photo it needs to be labelled as such. if in doubt slap the {{fairusereview}} tag on the image and someone with more expertise will review it. if you got it from a web page, or magazine, etc., list the source.

Photos I usually find necessary on articles about people as you want to see what they look like, but this is also a headache for me since the American copyright laws are so funny. As for now, I would say you are safe with these images, as long as they are really in the public ___domain. (Arundhati Bakshi (talkcontribs)) 15:08, 7 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Yes, certainly. You see, when you choose a license, a licensing template is automatically added to your page. You can alter this if you find it necessary. just click on the image itself and that will bring you to the image page . . . then click on "Edit" . . . you will see a tag with the copyright info. Then you can alter it if the license is wrong. Look at WP:CP and take a gander at that page and the probs listed and how they are dealt with. Also, some images can be used under a not-free license . . . you just need permission to use them. Try clicking on images that you see and looking at the source of the page and getting used to the tags, and you will get a better idea of what tags to use for what kinds of images (I am doing this as we speak). If in doubt, use {{helpme}} on the top of your talk page and someone will be with you in an instant, but likely they will just ask you where you got the image and read the policies to determine its legal status. Image Tagging Image:050521 ColdplayBerryman vs standard.jpg

This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:050521 ColdplayBerryman vs standard.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL-self}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. bluemask 13:46, 8 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

This is what I was talking about before if you didn't specify the source or choose the right license. Don't let this bother you -- I have gotten several of these messages. Just try to correct the information. I have found Deeptrivia of invaluable assiatnce to me in retaining images. In this case, you need to state the source of the photo, and probably claim fairuse. (Arundhati Bakshi (talkcontribs)) 16:23, 8 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
I have found where you likely got the photo: http://www.pleasureunit.com/coldplay/photos.php?category=guy and cited the source, then claimed fair use and to be sure, I have added the fairusereview tag so that someone else can get a look at it and make sure of its legal status. Hopefully this will alleviate the possible deletion problem. (Arundhati Bakshi (talkcontribs)) 16:30, 8 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

New Welcome Message?

Could you look at Item 25 on: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Esperanza and comment on it -- this is a proposal that I think may save many of us headaches in the future. (Arundhati Bakshi (talkcontribs)) 23:13, 9 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
