Campus

Charlotte Catholic High School Currently resides at 7702 Pineville Matthews Blvd. in Charlotte, North Carolina. Since moving to this new ___location, parking has seemed to have been a problem, and the school now takes action on the students who cant seem to find a parking spot in the overcrowded lot. Before moving to this ___location in 1995, the school was located on Park Road on a campus that is now occupied by Holy Trinity Catholic Middle School. The current building previously served as an office building. Outfitting and renovating the building to transform it into a high school cost approximately 10 million dollars. The building was outfitted with over 50 classrooms, a gymnasium, and Keffer Stadium was constructed. When the new building was first occupied, many classrooms remained unfinished and were completed during summers to accommodate the growing student population. In 2002 the cafeteria was expanded into the original lecture hall. The school had an expansion project spanning from the 2004 to 2005 school year adding a new wing with an additional 18 classrooms and a new, larger lecture hall. During this time a new Chapel was built with seating room for about 400 people. The chapel was officially dedicated and blessed in May 2005. Principal Gerald Healy wished that the ceremony might be visable to all students so a televison broadcast station was erected in the chapel and the ceremony was broadcast on the schools closed circuit television system. The gymnasium is transformed into a Chapel when the school holds mass during religious holdiays. Future projects include a track and an auditorium. Plans are being finalized now for the construction of a Fine Arts building which will include a state of the art theatre, scene shop, paint deck, as well as classrooms and offices for the drama, music, and visual arts departments.

Student Body

With over 1200 students, Charlotte Catholic has grown exponentially from when it first opened with only 400 students. The majority of students are caucasian, with a small minority population represented mostly by hispanic, african and asian americans. The beliefs of the students also vary. While many consider themselfs "conservative" politically, there are also several openly gay students.

Arts and Entertainment

  • Theatre
Traditionally, the school puts on two major theatrical productions per year: a fall drama produced by the drama department, and a spring musical produced by the drama department in association with the music department. Even though its only stage is in the gym, the school always manages to produce amazing technical and artistic works. In recent years the drama department has added much state-of-the-art technical equipment (sound design and set construction) thanks to past students and has been able to produce professional-level performances a small space.

  • Television
Televised morning announcements have been a part of Charlotte Catholic lore for quite some time. Most notable in recent history was the 2003-2004 Manny-Mac Show with B-to-the-Rendan with production credits to Brad Peterson. The show specialized in short spoof videos of various topics such as "The Crocudile Hunter: The Belkosauras" and "Grand Theft Auto". Also produced was a spoof of Britney Spears' "Toxic". The show was reprimanded for what some thought was "tasteless". The show apologized but lost that special edge. In 2004-2005 the show was pushed until the end of the day and was given a strict 3 minute time frame. Eventually the pleas from the student body won out and the show's format was moved to the beginning of first period. While the show kept to just announcements, the humour remained. The show staff eventually became more and more involved with the 2005 production of "Crazy for You". The show for the 2005-2006 is just standard announcements.

    Administration

    • Principal: Gerald Healy
    • Assistant Principal: Steve Carpenter
    • Dean of Students: Randy Belk

    General Thoughts

Like most independent schools in the Charlotte area, Charlotte Catholic High School students are predominantly Caucasian and wealthy. The school is, of course, open to all people and many different christian denominations are represented.

    Drug Policy

In 2004 a new drug policy was instituted. Under the new policy, all students are subject to random urine drug testing at any time during the school year. The typical pattern has been to test four random students from each grade, and then test additional students several days later. The policy was put into place to combat what Gerald Healy was tols as, "the underground drug subculture at Charlotte Catholic" and as a reaction to the reputation the school gained in the late 1990's as a school whose students were inclined to smoke marijuana and do cocaine. The policy is not zero tolerance, but students who test positive are subject to further testing and disciplinary action.

Mr Belk is a flaming douche bag
