The following characters have been on Y&R for a number of years, and even though some of them are not on the show anymore, their previous presence in Genoa City is still felt on the show today.
Families of Genoa City
The Newmans
- Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) - wealthy, powerful and brooding industrialist. Founder and former CEO of Newman Enterprises. Born Christian Miller, son of Albert and Cora Miller, and given up for adoption at an early age. Arch-enemy of Jack Abbott. Married (for the third time) to Nicole Reed. Previously married to the following (in chronological order): Julia, no maiden name; Ashley Abbott, Leanna Love, Hope Adams, and Diane Jenkins. Currently a partner in the NVP Retreats development project with Phyllis Summers and his wife Nikki.
- Nicole "Nikki" Reed Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) - Victor Newman's on-again, off-again wife, the mother of his children Nicholas and Victoria, and his one great, true love. Sister of doctor Casey Reed. Former girlfriend of Paul Williams. Previously married to the following (in chronological order): Greg Foster (Jill's foster brother), Kevin Bancroft, Tony DiSalvo (killed by Paul Williams), Jack Abbott, and Josh Landers (turned out to be invalid - his former wife faked her death and killed him).
- Nicholas "Nick" Newman (Joshua Morrow) - Victor and Nikki's son, father of Noah and adoptive father of the late Cassie Newman. Married to Sharon Collins. Former co-owner of the Crimson Lights coffeehouse chain (in Genoa City and Milwaukee). Currently co-CEO of Newman Enterprises with his sister Victoria.
- Victoria "Vicki" Newman (Amelia Heinle; formerly played by Heather Tom and Sarah Aldrich) - Victor and Nikki's daughter. Currently co-CEO of Newman Enterprises with her brother Nicholas.
- Ryan McNeil (played from 1991 to 2001 by Scott Reeves) - Victoria Newman's "one true love". At the center of a love triangle between Victoria and Nina Webster, and later Victoria and Tricia Dennison (Sabryn Genet). Died in November 2001 after Tricia shot him during a psychotic episode at his wedding to Victoria.
- Sharon Collins Newman (Sharon Case) - Nicholas's wife, and mother of Cassie and Noah. Former co-owner of the Crimson Lights coffeehouse chain. Currently a spokeswoman for Newman Enterprises.
- Cassidy "Cassie" Newman (played from 1997 to 2005 by Camryn Grimes) - Sharon's illegitimate daughter with Frank Barritt, whom Sharon gave up for adoption. Later reclaimed by Sharon and became a Newman after Sharon's husband Nick adopted her. Died in May 2005 of a brain infection caused by a car accident which was her fault.
- Noah Newman (Hunter Allan) - son of Nicholas and Sharon Newman.
The Abbotts
- John Abbott (Jerry Douglas) - Aging patriarch of the Abbott clan. Founder and former Chairman of the Board of Jabot Cosmetics. Father of Jack, Traci and Billy Abbott, and believes he is the father of Ashley Abbott. Currently married to Gloria Fisher; previously married to (in chronological order) Dina Mergeron, Jessica Blair, and Jill Foster. Currently serving a seven-year prison sentence for the murder of Tom Fisher.
- John "Jack" Abbott Jr. (Peter Bergman; formerly played by Terry Lester) - John Abbott's son with Dina Mergeron. Victor Newman's greatest rival and enemy. Currently CEO of Chancellor Industries. Previously married to Phyllis Summers and Paul Williams' sister Patti, who nearly killed him after he slept with former stepmom Jill Foster.
- Phyllis Summers Abbott (Michelle Stafford; formerly played by Sandra Nelson) - Somewhat-reformed ex-wife of Jack Abbott; previously married to Danny Romalotti and mother of Daniel Romalotti, Jr. Currently a partner in the NVP Retreats development project with Victor and Nikki Newman.
- Ashley Abbott Carlton (Eileen Davidson; formerly played by Brenda Epperson Doumani and Shari Shattuck) - Jack's chemist half-sister. President of Jabot. Married to Brad Carlton, though currently separated. Formerly married to Victor Newman and mother of his daughter Abby (born by sperm theft). Gave birth to a stillborn son with Brad Carlton, Robert, after an auto accident; this also left her unable to bear any more children. Actually is not the biological daughter of John Abbott (is the daughter of Dina Mergeron and Brent Davis).
- Bradley "Brad" Carlton (Don Diamont) - Husband of Ashley Abbott, though they are currently separated. Father of Colleen Carlton and adoptive father of Abby Carlton, Ashley's daughter. Previously married to (in chronological order) Lisa Mansfield, Traci Abbott (twice), and Cassandra Rawlins (widowed). Currently a high-level executive at Newman Enterprises. Despises Victor Newman (or rather used to).
- Abigail "Abby" Carlton (Darcy Rose Byrnes) - daughter of Ashley Abbott and Victor Newman.
- Colleen Carlton (Adrianne Leon; formerly played by Lyndsy Fonseca) - daughter of Traci Abbott and Brad Carlton. Currently enrolled at New York University, but is in Genoa City due to family matters. Despises Kevin Fisher.
- Jill Foster Abbott (Jess Walton; formerly played by Brenda Dickson and Deborah Adair) - Jack and Ashley Abbott's former stepmother. Currently CEO of Jabot Cosmetics. Raised to believe Liz Foster was her birth mother, but was in fact given up for adoption by Katherine Chancellor (is the daughter of Katherine and Arthur Hendricks).
- William "Billy" Foster Abbott (most notably played by David Tom) - John and Jill Abbott's only child. Briefly married to his cousin Mackenzie Browning (they did not consummate their marriage). Left town in July 2003 for some parts unknown.
- Gloria Fisher Abbott (Judith Chapman; formerly played by Joan Van Ark) - Mother of Kevin Fisher (with Tom Fisher) and Michael Baldwin (with Mr. Baldwin, no first name known), and married to John Abbott (the marriage originally was technically invalid, since a divorce attempt from husband Tom Fisher was never filed, but steps were later taken to resolve the issue).
- Traci Abbott Connelly (Beth Maitland) - novelist. Daughter of John Abbott and Dina Mergeron. Currently married to Steve Connelly; previously married to Danny Romalotti and Brad Carlton. Had a problem with weight as a teen and young adult. Mother of Colleen Carlton. Left Genoa City in 1996 for a new life in New York City.
The Chancellors
- Katherine Shepard Reynolds Chancellor Sterling (Jeanne Cooper) - wealthy industrialist and society matron. Majority shareholder and owner of Chancellor Industries. Mother of Jill Foster (with Arthur Hendricks) and Brock Reynolds (with Gary Reynolds). Formerly married to (in chronological order) Gary Reynolds, Phillip Chancellor II, Derek Thurston, and Brian Romalotti (twice). Longtime rival of Jill Foster until after Jill's paternity was revealed.
- Phillip Chancellor II (formerly played by John Considine, Donnelly Rhodes, Chris Hebert, and Jimmy Keegan) - Katherine Chancellor's second husband, who had an affair with Jill and produced a love child. He substained fatal injuries in a car accident and married Jill at his deathbed.
- Brock Reynolds (Beau Kayzer) - Katherine Chancellor's long-lost son. Half-brother of and formerly married to Jill Foster (marriage never consummated, was later annulled).
- Mackenzie "Mac" Browning (Rachel Kimsey; formerly played by Ashley Bashioum and Kelly Kruger) - Granddaughter of Katherine Chancellor and daughter of Brock Reynolds. Cousin of and formerly married to Billy Abbott (marriage never consummated, was later annulled). Currently co-owner of the Crimson Lights coffeehouse in Genoa City with Kevin Fisher. She found out in February 2006 that she was pregnant with J.T. Hellstrom's baby, but then miscarried it in March.
- Nina Webster Chancellor Kimble McNeil (played from 1986 to 2001 by Tricia Cast) - unwed teenage mother, was married to Phillip II's son Phillip III, who died in a drunk-driving accident. Best friends, later adversaries, and friends again with Christine. Mother of Phillip III's son, Phillip Chancellor IV. Left town in February 2001 for a new life in Los Angeles with Phillip IV.
- Phillip Chancellor III (Thom Bierdz) - Love child of Jill and Phillip II. Died in a drunk-driving accident in 1989 shortly after marrying Nina Webster.
- Phillip Chancellor IV - Son of Phillip and Nina, born in 1988, but never seems to age like Nicholas Newman, whom is technically the same age as.
The Winters/Barbers
- Malcolm Winters (Shemar Moore) - former photographer for Newman Enterprises. Brother of Neil Winters. Was presumed dead in February 2002 but came back two years later after "disappearing" in Africa. Once slept with Drucilla Barber while she was high on cold medication; was discovered in 2005 to be Lily Winters's biological father due to that event.
- Olivia Barber Hastings Winters (Tonya Lee Williams) - Doctor in residence at Genoa City Memorial Hospital. Formerly married to Malcolm Winters and Nathan Hastings (widowed). Sister of Drucilla Barber. Was for a long time in love with her sister's husband Neil.
- Nathan Hastings (most notably played by Nathan Purdee from 1985 to 1992) - Olivia's husband, he and Olivia broke up after it was learned he had presumably gotten HIV from an affair, eventually died from being hit by a car after kidnapping Nate when separated from Olivia.
- Nathan 'Nate' Hastings, Jr. (formerly played by Bryant Jones) - son of Nathan Hastings and Olivia Barber. Currently attending school in Great Britain.
- Neil Winters (Kristoff St. John) - Chief Operating Officer of Newman Enterprises. Brother of Malcolm Winters. Recovering alcoholic. Currently married (for the second time) to Drucilla Barber, and believes he is the father of her daughter Lily.
- Drucilla Barber Winters (Victoria Rowell) - Neil Winters' tart-tongued wife and Olivia Barber's sister. Currently head of the Brash and Sassy division of Newman Enterprises. Street urchin who was taught to read by Nathan Hastings. Eventually bettered herself into a fashion model, and later an employee at Jabot. Slept with Malcolm Winters one night while drugged up on painkillers, resulting in her being pregnant with daughter Lily. On-again-off-again rival of Phyllis Summers.
- Lily Winters Romalotti (Davetta Sherwood; formerly played by Christel Khalil) - daughter of Malcolm Winters and Drucilla Barber. Long believed to be the child of Neil and Dru, she was recently revealed to be the child of Malcolm and Dru. An unhealthy sexual relationship with Kevin Fisher, whom she met over the internet, led to the revelation that she had an STD. Currently married to Daniel Romalotti, Jr.; her relationship with Daniel is opposed by both their mothers as they do not get along. Was an unknowing patsy in 2004 in a ploy concocted by Daniel to set up a rescue at a recreation center and improve Kevin Fisher's image, which resulted in her being drugged and almost raped. Lily left Genoa City in September 2005 when Drucilla and Neil sent her to boarding school in New Hampshire, and returned in February 2006.
- Devon Hamilton (Bryton McClure) - foster son of Neil and Drucilla. Biological son of Yolanda Hamilton. Currently a student at Genoa City High School.
- Yolanda Hamilton (Chene Lawson) - Devon's mother, formerly a drug addict. Went through detox and worked briefly in the mail room at Newman Enterprises. Left Genoa City in January 2006 for Seattle after misconstruing her relationship with Neil Winters.
The Williamses and Others
- Paul Williams (Doug Davidson) - Private investigator. Former boyfriend of Nikki Newman. Brother to Patti, Todd, and Steven Williams. Son of Carl and Mary Williams. Formerly married to April Stevens, Christine Blair, Lauren Fenmore, and Isabella Braña. Father to Heather Stevens Lynch (with April Stevens) and Ricardo Carl Williams (with Isabella Braña). Godfather to Daniel Romalotti, Jr.
- Patti Williams (Andrea Evans} - Daughter of Carl and Mary Williams. Ex-wife of Jack Abbott. Nearly killed him when she found out he had an affair with Jill (Jack's former mother-in-law).
- Mary Williams (Carolyn Conwell) - Paul's meddling, judgmental mother. Ex-wife of Carl Williams. Hates Lauren Fenmore and dislikes Christine (although she has pitted them against each other pretending to favor one over the other). Especially despises Isabella Braña and the late Cassandra Rawlins.
- Christine Blair (Lauralee Bell) - Legal aid lawyer and former model. Partner in the law firm of Baldwin and Blair with Michael Baldwin (whom she was engaged to at one point). Previously married to (in chronological order) Danny Romalotti and Paul Williams.
- Danny Romalotti (Michael Damian) - Former breakout rock star. Formerly married to Traci Abbott, Christine Blair and Phyllis Summers. Currently on tour.
- Gina Roma (Patty Weaver) - Danny Romalotti's older sister (given name Gina Romalotti). Former owner of Gina's, a popular restaurant in Genoa City which was burned down by Kevin Fisher in 2003. Former girlfriend of Neil Fenmore, Lauren's late father, and John Abbott. Currently manager of the Genoa City Athletic Club.
- Daniel Romalotti, Jr. (Michael Graziadei; formerly played by Cam Gigandet and Owen Beckman) - adopted son of Danny Romalotti; biological son of Phyllis Summers and Brian Hamilton (via sperm donation). Currently a student at Genoa City High School. Was involved in the events leading to the death of Cassie Newman in 2005, and was arrested for DUI (later involuntary manslaughter) stemming from that; was later found innocent of charges. Currently married to Lily Winters.
- Michael Baldwin (Christian LeBlanc) - attorney at law; partner in the law firm of Baldwin and Blair with Christine Blair. Former lover of both Christine and Phyllis Summers. Son of Gloria Fisher and half-brother of Kevin Fisher. Currently married to Lauren Fenmore.
- Kevin Fisher (Greg Rikaart) - Half-brother of Michael Baldwin, son of Thomas and Gloria Fisher. Nearly killed John Abbott's granddaughter Colleen Carlton by setting the restaurant Gina's on fire in 2003, subsequently attending therapy to get over an abusive childhood. Currently co-owner of the Crimson Lights coffeehouse in Genoa City with Mackenzie Browning.
- Lynne Bassett (Laura Bryan Birn) - former secretary of Paul Williams, who insisted on referring to him only as "Boss".
- Lauren Fenmore Baldwin (Tracey E. Bregman) - Owner of Fenmore's department store chain. Former model and teenage rival of Traci Abbott. Previously involved with Danny Romalotti, Paul Williams, and Brad Carlton. Widow of Dr. Scott Grainger, Christine Blair's half-brother. Mother of Scott Grainger Jr. Daughter of Neil Fenmore and Joanna Manning. Previously married to Paul Williams. Arch-nemesis of Sheila Carter. Close friend of the Forrester family on The Bold and the Beautiful. Currently married to Michael Baldwin.
- Jeffrey Todd "J.T." Hellstrom (Thad Luckinbill) - Private investigator, apprenticed under Paul Williams. Formerly involved with Mackenzie Browning, Colleen Carlton and briefly with Brittany and Anita Hodges.
- Bobby Marsino (John Enos III) - Grew up with his aunt and uncle after his birth family fell apart (given name Charles Robert Cassen). Managed an exotic dance club with ties to the underworld. Was shocked to learn that Nikki Newman accidentally killed his brother, Joshua Cassen, years earlier as a child. Was married to Brittany Hodges, whom he had a child with (Joshua). Testified against the mob and was about to enter the Witness Protection Program. He was killed October 2005 by a hit-and-run driver under suspicious circumstances.
- Brittany Hodges Marsino (Lauren Woodland) - Childhood friend of J.T. Hellstrom. Married Bobby Marsino in 2004 and gave birth to their son, Joshua, in 2005. Only child of Frederick (John H. Martin) and Anita Hodges (Mitzi Kapture). Originally waiting to join Bobby in the Witness Protection Program after Joshua's birth; after Bobby's death she moved to New York with her parents and child.
- Cameron Kirsten (Linden Ashby) - A successful businessman with a darker side. He terrorized Sharon Newman throughout late 2003 to early fall of 2004.
- Thomas "Terrible Tom" Fisher (Roscoe Born) - Husband of Gloria Fisher. Originally came to Genoa City to extort money from his son Kevin, and eventually extorted money from Gloria. Originally deceived Ashley Abbott about his identity in order to pursue a relationship with her. Formerly allied with Sheila Carter. Was shot by John Abbott and killed on Dec. 27, 2005.
- Sheila Carter (Kimberlin Brown) - Former nurse and mortal enemy of Lauren Fenmore. Mother of Mary Warwick (with Dr. James Warwick, from The Bold and the Beautiful), and Diana Carter (with Massimo Marone). Has committed multiple crimes, though most notably was responsible for switching Lauren's son Scott Grainger Jr. with another baby in 1991, and attempting to kill Lauren and her own mother that same year. Crossed over to The Bold and the Beautiful in 1992 and then left town in 1998. Returned to Genoa City in 2005 along with "Scotty" Grainger; allied with Tom Fisher under false pretense to kill Lauren. Current whereabouts unknown.
- Esther Valentine (Kate Linder) - Longtime maid/servant/companion of Katherine Chancellor.
