Dan Tien

The Dan Tien, or Tan Tien, is a spot around a couple of inches below the navel, and located inside the body. It is where a martial artist's power comes from. The Dan Tien is sometimes divided into sections. The lower Dan Tien is associated with physical energy, and sometimes sexuality. Th middle Dan Tien deals with respiration and the health of internal organs. The upper Dan Tien relates to your consciousness, or shen, and your brain. These (and other) areas are connected by paths known as meridians. It is by dealing with certain points on the meridians that acupuncture deals with, altering the energy flow to heal the patient. The once secret martial arts technique of Dim Mak also deals with these points, though with Dim Mak you strike at them, causing damage to your opponent.
