Williamson is a town located in Wayne County, New York, USA. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 6,777. The town was named after Charles Williamson, a land agent.

History
The first settler, Daniel Russell, built a log cabin in Pultneyville in 1794. This hamlet became the only port until the opening of the Erie Canal.
Williamson was created in 1802 from the Town of Sodus. Later other towns were created from some of the Williamson. In 1814 during the War of 1812, British troops landed in Pultneyville, and an agreement was made with the villagers allowing them to seize some stores without resistance, but a dispute broke out and firing began on both sides.

Demographics
Williamson is a rural farming town. Specializing in apples, but also farms cows, peaches, cherries etc.
As of the census2 of 2000, there were 6,777 people, 2,545 households, and 1,901 families residing in the town. The population density was 75.6/km² (195.7/mi²). There were 2,792 housing units at an average density of 31.1/km² (80.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the town was 93.54% White, 3.72% African American, 0.37% Native American, 0.44% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.74% from other races, and 1.20% from two or more races. 1.73% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 2,545 households out of which 35.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.8% were married couples living together, 8.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 25.3% were non-families. 20.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.66 and the average family size was 3.08.
In the town the population was spread out with 27.5% under the age of 18, 6.1% from 18 to 24, 28.6% from 25 to 44, 25.2% from 45 to 64, and 12.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 98.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.7 males.
The median income for a household in the town was $51,068, and the median income for a family was $56,757. Males had a median income of $39,250 versus $31,250 for females. The per capita income for the town was $20,701. 4.7% of the population and 2.7% of families were below the poverty line. 3.5% of those under the age of 18 and 7.9% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.

The north boundary is Lake Ontario with Canada on the opposite shore. The south town line borders the Town of Marion. To the east is the Town of Sodus and to the west is the Town of Ontario.
