Wikipedia:Requests for history merge/Archive 1
Latest comment: 19 years ago by Androl in topic Repair requests
This page was originally for listing cut and paste moves which could not be repaired due to a then-extant technical limitation. The limitation has since been removed, but this page is still available if you find a cut-and-paste move, and are not able to repair it yourself. (There is a procedure for doing it, but 1. only admins can do it, and 2. it's a bit tricky.)
Currently the only technical limitation is that category and image description pages can't be moved.
To list an article here
- Place a {{db-histmerge|NAME OF PAGE THE ARTICLE WAS CUT FROM}} template at the new ___location of the article which has been moved through cut and pasting, i.e. on the article where the pasting was done.
- If the issue is clear-cut (straight up cut and paste move to a better title), having the speedy delete tag on the page should be enough. In more complex cases (explained at Wikipedia:How to fix cut and paste moves), please leave a description of the problem under the "Repair requests" section.

New entries at the bottom, please.
- Please move Kevin Caroll to Kevin Carroll, as this is the right title, and I cannot move it because the new page was a cut and paste thing. Oskar 19:07, 11 June 2006 (UTC)
- please merge the histories of Number of the Beast and Number of the Beast (numerology) (articles and discussions) --androl 19:10, 11 June 2006 (UTC)

- I'm not sure whether using the templates for this will be a good idea, since only one specific revision needs to be incorporated. The article Last Supper needs to be deleted in order to move The Last Supper there. I think it was presumed that the edit history of Last Supper was redundant to The Last Supper, so that it would be safe to delete it. However, The Last Supper is missing the oldest available revision, [1]. I think if it can be merged in, then the move can finally take place. Ardric47 00:11, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
- Please move all edits from E.T. (game) to E.T. (video game) because the person who originally did it didn't move the page. Hbdragon88 05:11, 11 June 2006 (UTC)
- Okay, I merged the history from E.T. (video game) into E.T. (game) as that was how the redirect pointed. If you think it should be the other way around, you can move the article back over the redirect yourself. AmiDaniel (talk) 06:35, 11 June 2006 (UTC)
- The article at public switched telephone network was wrongly cut-and-pasted to the improper capitalization at Public Switched Telephone Network. (It is not a proper noun.) When this is corrected, please also change the redirect at PSTN. –radiojon 06:24, 11 June 2006 (UTC)
- Should all be fixed now. I kept the talk pages where they were, but feel free to move them around as you see fit. AmiDaniel (talk) 06:31, 11 June 2006 (UTC)
- This is a complicated request, but is necessary to get all the edit histories correct to be compliant with GFDL as I understand it. There was originally an article located at Spinnwebe that was deleted through AFD. After a period of no article, the article was recreated and was then quickly restored to the article that had previously been deleted, presumably from a Google cached copy. That article, after a rename to SpinnWebe, was nominated for deletion again and survived. However, this leaves the edit history out of kilter due to what was essentially a cut-and-paste move that restored the original article. So... the original article was deleted, a new article was later created in the same ___location, and the old article's content was placed on the new article via cut-and-paste. And so the deleted article and current article's page histories should thus be merged, since it's basically the same article. I hope it's possible to get this mess sorted out. - Just to make sure I didn't miss anything here--it looks to be a pretty simple case. As I understand it, there are 24 deleted edits at Spinnwebe, which need to be restored and merged into SpinnWebe. I don't think there should be any policy problem restoring those edits if it was kept through the AfD. Anyway, if that's all it is, then this is quite simple. - Okay, well I merged the histories as I above stated: the deleted history of Spinnwebe has been restored and merged into SpinnWebe. Let me know if I missed anything. AmiDaniel (talk) 08:47, 11 June 2006 (UTC)
- That looks to have gotten it. Thanks! SchuminWeb (Talk) 12:35, 11 June 2006 (UTC)
