Major-General George Anson (1797 – 1857)
- Born October 13 1797 and died May 27 1857
- He was Colonel of the 55th (the Westmoreland) Regiment of Foot from December 12 1856 until he died six months later.
- He succeeded to the command of the Madras Army in 1854, and early in 1856 became Commander-in-Chief in India. He died of cholera during his march against the Indian mutineers at Delhi in May 1857.
