This talk page is automatically archived by Werdnabot. Any sections older than 7 days are automatically archived to User talk:Werdna/Archive/Archive-Sep2025. Sections without timestamps are not archived
Comment I am semi-absent from Wikipedia. I will check my watchlst every few days, but will not be as active as I have been previously. This is partly as a result of my disillusionment with much of Wikipedia's workings at the moment, but mostly due to a large number of assessment tasks occurring in the next three months. ===....===" or "====....====" (etc) section is a subsection of a level "==....==" section. Can Werdnabot be set to keep a section and its subsections together?

Example:
  • Here the "== Opinion essay: Overuse of Anonymity at Wikipedia and a Proposal ==" section is archived, without its subsection "===Discussion===": [1]

Suggestion

I was thinking of putting this forward myself, but I think it might sound better coming straight from the horse's mouth. Have you ever considered suggesting to anyone creating a manually controlled list of high-traffic article talk pages for Werdnabot to take care of? --InShaneee 19:57, 10 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Interesting idea. More details? Werdna talk criticism 02:27, 13 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Well, the way I see it, there are some pages that get a whole lot of talk traffic, but don't have a lot of experienced, dedicated users around to take care of regular archiving, causing the pages to become unweildly huge. If there was perhaps a system to nominate such pages for patrolling by Werdnabot... --InShaneee 23:23, 18 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Bot archiving of Village Pump pages

Hi, I noticed your bot has started archiving WP:VPP after User:Crypticbot got blocked. Could you set it up to archive the other sections of the Village Pump as well? I tried to archive one section, but got reverted by an anti-vandalism bot. I reverted it and that seemed to get the problem under control, but if an effective bot can handle the task of archiving all these pages, there's no reason for a human to waste an hour every couple of weeks doing it. Thanks if your bot can be of assistance. Kudos for designing it. I've seen it around; it is most helpful.--Kchase T 03:58, 12 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Just copy and paste the code for archival (don't forget the commented directive) from VPP. It should work fine. Werdna talk criticism 02:26, 13 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Werdnabot not archiving my talk page

Hmm... Werdnabot is not archiving my talk page anymore, but I haven't meddled with the archival code. :S Can you take a look at my page and see what's wrong? Thanks! Kimchi.sg 12:53, 12 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

The first few posts on the page have non-standard timestamps. These will need to be manually archived. Werdna talk criticism 02:26, 13 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
You mean things like timestamps that end with (UTC{{{3|}}}) or (UTC+8) make Werdnabot choke? Because that's what {{unsigned2}} adds if it's subst'ed. Should I not subst unsigned2 in the future, if that's the case? Kimchi.sg 08:03, 13 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
It doesn't choke, it just doesn't recognise the timestamp. You're welcome to fix the {{unsigned2}} template to sort this out

Thank you for Werdnabot!

I just wanted to drop by and say thank you for your Werdnabot archiver. It is much appreciated. (I'm watching it working on village pump technical) --Ligulem 08:20, 14 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Just a note: On the first edit by the bot on the VP/T, it apparently removed a nonused section header from a <pre> block (see line 403 in that diff). This caused a bit of a mess as it removed the </pre> (which became much more apparent lately, as the gap to the next closing <pre> was far down the page). I have attempted to re-add it, but the page is so big it gives me a headache. Also, the archive might be messed up in that section. --Splarka (rant) 10:52, 15 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

August Esperanza Newsletter

Program Feature: To-Do List
The Esperanza To-Do List is a place where you may list any request, big or small, for assistance. If you need help with archiving your usertalk, for example, all you need to do is list it here and somebody will help you out. Likewise, if you need help with some area of editing on Wikipedia, list it here! Again, any matter, trivial or not, can be placed on this page. However, all matters listed on this page must not be of an argumentative nature. You do not need to be a member of Esperanza (or this program) to place or fulfill requests on this page. If you don't have any requests, consider coming by and fulfilling a few! This program has not been very active, but has lots of potential!
What's New?
In order to help proposed programs become specific enough to make into full-fledged programs, the In development section of the proposals page has been created. Proposals that are promising, but need to be organized in more detail are listed here. Please take a look at what is there, and help the proposals turn into programs.
To improve both the layout and text of the front page, in an attempt to clarify the image of Esperanza, the front page is going to have some redesigning take place. Please take your creative minds to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Front page redesign to brainstorm good ideas.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  1. In order to make sure all users who join Esperanza are welcomed, a list of volunteers who are willing to welcome new Esperanzians is at Wikipedia:Esperanza/Members#Esperanza_welcomers. Please add yourself if you are interested; we want to make sure all new Esperanza members are welcomed!
  2. The In development section of the proposals page has been created.
  3. Proposals page: Some proposals have been moved to the aforementioned "In development" section, some have been left as a proposal, and others have been archived. For those proposals that were a good idea but didn't necessarily constitute a program, General Esperanzial Actions has been created.
  4. Two small pieces of charter reform will be decided on in a straw poll at Wikipedia talk:Esperanza/Governance. One involves filling the position of any councillors who may leave, the other involves reforming the charter.
  5. Until cooperation with the Kindness Campaign is better defined, it remains as a proposed program.
  6. There is a page for discussing the front page redesign.

Although having the newsletter appear on everyone's userpage is desired, this may not be ideal for everyone. If, in the future, you wish to receive a link to the newsletter, rather than the newsletter itself, you may add yourself to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter/Opt Out List.

An automated message from Werdnabot?!?!

It can't archive my talk page it says. It apparently wants me to check an error which is not specified. Let me know what I can do. --Kevin_b_er 18:29, 14 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks

Thanks for Werdnabot! My talk page was growing faster than 100K per month and it was a pain in the behind to archive. Now I don't have to! Yay! --Yamla 03:42, 15 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Talk Page Archival

Hi, nice bot you have, I set it up to archive my talk page, and I just got a message that there is some type of error. Anyway you can help me out here? Thanks! --DieHard2k5 01:19, 20 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Yay! Barnstar

The Billington Software Develpment Barnstar

I, Michael Billington, award you the Billington Software Develpment Barnstar for for creating Werdnabot. That bot is so damn smart I'm suprised it hasn't re-written itself in assembly. Keep that bot running!. If you liked this barnstar, then please leave a message on My talk page so it looks like everyone likes me.
Thanks :) Werdna talk criticism 04:51, 20 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Werdnabot doesn't like me

I added the werdnabot text to my user talk page and set it to go off after three days. It's been longer than that and werdnabot doesn't seem to be archiving me. Did I mess something up? I haven't received any error messages. --Yamla 04:56, 20 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

I wanted to add my voice to this. I've been using this for sometime, and about 3 days ago it seemed to have stopped functioning. I've checked to ensure the code is fine and it seems to be, but I've been using it for at least a month or two perfectly fine.--Crossmr 01:57, 21 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Ditto ... my talk page is also no longer being archived. It's really starting to pile up. --Cyde Weys 05:00, 21 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

a quick check of werdnabots contribs indicates a couple of talk pages are being archived, but I've no idea why those few are and the rest aren't.--Crossmr 05:06, 21 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
I'll do some investigating now. Werdna talk criticism 06:19, 21 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Yep, you guys were right. There was a bug in the regular expression Werdnabot uses for detecting sections. You'll find that Werdnabot is running a large run now. Werdna talk criticism 06:28, 21 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

It seems to be copying content to the designated archive page but not removing it from the soruce page. Is that normal? --Yamla 14:45, 21 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Got some diffs? This is not normal. Werdna talk criticism 23:36, 21 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
See My talk page history and my talk archive page history. Note that the content is added to the archive successfully but is not removed from my talk page. That is, Werdnabot doesn't actually edit my talk page. --Yamla 23:52, 21 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Bot request

This is an insanely trivial thing, but I was wondering on the possibility of overriding the X day limit, i.e. allowing <!-- NOARCHIVE --> keep a section indefinitely, and <!-- ARCHIVE --> remove a section (such as a trivial RFA "thank you") archive it on the bot's next check. Again, no need for this, but it would be nice. Ral315 (talk) 16:43, 21 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

The <!--Werdnabot-noarchive--> has been implemented since Werdnabot's creation. I will add your other suggestion to my bugtracker and get around to it in due course. Thanks, Werdna talk criticism 23:35, 21 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Well, that's what I get for not reading documentation :) Thanks for looking into the other one. Ral315 (talk) 01:35, 22 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
