John-Ford Griffin (b. November 19, 1979 in Sarasota, Florida) is a major league outfielder playing for the Toronto Blue Jays. He bats and throws left-handed. Griffin played college baseball under head coach Mike Marin for the Florida State University Seminoles.
After a long ardous trip to the majors, Griffin made his major league debut on September 6, 2005. In a brief 13 at-bat stint, the outfielder hit .308 with 1 home run and 6 RBIs.
Despite a small major league résumé, the much touted prospect, has been an important piece of several important trades. Drafted as the 23rd overall player in the 2001 First-Year Player Draft, he quickly became one of the New York Yankees top prospects. On July 5, 2002, Griffin along with future Blue Jay teammates, Ted Lilly and Jason Arnold were sent off to the Oakland Athletics. This was just a part of a three team trade that also involved the Detroit Tigers sending Jeff Weaver back to New York and Carlos Peña, Jeremy Bonderman and Franklyn German coming back to Detroit from Oakland.
Griffin was again dealt, this time to Toronto, for minor leaguer Jason Perry on January 7, 2003.
