The Girard Academic Music Program is a magnet secondary school in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The school is operated by the School District of Philadelphia.

Girard covers grades five through twelve

Girard was started in 1975. Girard is a music magnet school, which means each prospective student must pass an audition as well as exams to get accepted.

The school, which originally started in the basement of another school, runs grades 5 through 12. It offers many extracurricular activities including: concert band, orchestra, chamber strings, jazz band, concert choir, gardening club, highschool choir, and many more.

Although the school has a music department, it also offers advanced placement courses in Calculus, English, Politics and Music Theory.

Students enrolled in the school are required to wear school uniforms [1] [2].

The school is ran by Principal Angelo Malicia and Music Director Dr. Jack Carr. The school is focused around music and performing arts. They have three types of concentration. The first, is a Music Theory/ Music Technology section. Each and every student takes a Music Theory class and or Music Tech class every day of the week. Second, is the Instumental side. Every student who plays an instrument as a daily lesson and then the 8th period is designated to what group they are in ( Orchestra, Concert Band, Strings, ETC). The third section is the Vocal Study. Gamp is very known for their Concert Choir. They have performed for president Clinton, the Philadelphia Phillies, Mayor John Street, and many other local poliitcal and district officals. GAMP is also very popular with the South Philadelphia community and known for their annual Broadway plays and hot shot talent shows. Some popular students who graduated from GAMP are Justin Gonzolez, Desiree Sassano, Pat Diamond, Erica Gagliardi, Anthony Trovello, Mike Vivas, Mike Zuino, and Timothy Parker,Stephanie Severino, Luis Figaroia, Giana Lozzi, Stephen Nicolai, Jason Obrien, and Vincent Cappello All of these members are currently active around Philadelphia performing shows, and concerts throughout the year. When is comes to Sports, GAMP is certainly a competitor. They have varisty Baseball, Tennis, Basketball, and Girls Softball. For being a small school of only 60 seniors in a graduating class, they certainly give everyone a run for their money in the athletic section. The Baseball team clenched the chip in 2002 led by team leaders Dom Demarco and Vince Evangelista. The Tennis Team has been in the finals three straight seasons with help from captains Pat Diamond, Kris Russo, and Mike Zuino. The Basketball team has been in and out of the playoffs every year. And the girls softball team has been to the division championship the last two years in a row.
