English:

The 2007 confirmation has ended.

The 2007 steward elections are a good opportunity to check if we are still happy with our current stewards. To make the process as smooth as possible, here is how things are organized.

During the 2007 elections, please mention if you are unhappy with one of the persons listed below and why. For example, you may mention inactivity or negative behavior. Inactive stewards, as stated in the steward policies, will lose their steward access.

At the end of the elections, the current and newly elected stewards will consider complaints left on this page, and choose to remove stewardship as necessary taking into account both the comments left by community and their own perspective and understanding of the job. All stewards will go through this process after each election.

A confirmação 2007 terminou

Individual Comments

Stewards/confirm/2009/mul/Angela

Comments about Angela

  1. Seems highly appropriate to me that Angela be reconfirmed, regardless of activity level. When she's had time to do so, she's acted with wisdom and fairness, keeping consensus in mind. Not having her be around on the private lists to counsel newer stewards seems a major loss. ++Lar: t/c 10:56, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  2. I concur with Lar's comments, activity is not the sole criteria and certainly not for this user --Herby talk thyme 13:22, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  3. Angela still remains a steward in good standing and maintains activity. Cary Bass demandez 16:11, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  4. While Angela is currently less active than before, she was once the most active stewards as well as Anthere. Wisdom with a vast amount of experiences shouldn't be underestimated. And still, as Cary pointed out, she is engaged in maintenance. --Aphaia 20:17, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  5. Angela has been incredibly helpful and useful over at en:w, and she will likely continue to be so here, too. 日本穣 Nihonjoe 03:57, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  6. Angela has been the most Active steward before and and as pointed out above, her experiences and wisdom is far greater than most other younger stewards and I believe she will do her job as a Steward when called upon and thus deserves to keep her bit...--Cometstyles 11:42, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  7. Imho low activity does not mean inactivity, her skills are still needed. Very helpful and friendly, thanks --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 11:55, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Comments about Anthere

  1. Positive comments are not required to keep access, but I would be remiss not to mention the positive contributions our chairman has made over the years. As with Angela, she may not be that active but when she is, she acts wisely and well, and not having her on the private lists would be a loss to other stewards. ++Lar: t/c 10:58, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  2. I see no reason why Anthere should not be confirmed and quite a few why she should as Lar's comments --Herby talk thyme 13:24, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  3. Florence has maintained an activity level and left no reason to doubt her ability to steward. Cary Bass demandez 16:12, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  4. While Anthere is currently less active than before, she was once the most active stewards as well as Angela. Wisdom with a vast amount of experiences shouldn't be underestimated. And still, as Cary pointed out, she is engaged in maintenance including officewiki and other highly confidential wikis. --Aphaia 20:20, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  5. As Herby mentions, I can't see any reason not to confirm Anthere's stewardship Gaillimh 00:09, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  7. As per lar and she has been quite inactive but as chair of the foundation and with her vast array of experience and leadership, she should be reconfirmed without much opposition as mentioned above, their is no reason to doubt her ability as a steward...--Cometstyles 11:36, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  8. Anthere is often available through irc and therefore she can be reached in case of emergencies (which was the case just a short while ago). I highly recommend to reconfirm her, thanks, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 11:57, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  9. She is only semi-active, but she is often available in case anyone is ever needed. As her position as board chair, using steward rights on an "official" basis may be useful. Fine to reconfirm. Majorly (talk) 18:55, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'll not defend him as such & I warned him at the time. However, in the heat of argument such as there was on that page, for a human being it was wrong but pardonable in my view. I've worked with guillon across projects, he is a very good steward in my view, a lapse in this way is sad but I would ask that the apology which is sincere is taken into account please. Thanks --Herby talk thyme 12:51, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The "outburst" was uncharacteristic of guillom, and I'm sure he regrets doing it now. He's apologised, and it should be accepted. Perhaps it may be better for guillom to not comment anymore on Aphaia's candidacy. Thanks. 82.31.11.207 12:55, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The candidacy is withdrawn so there should be no further comments by anyone, thanks --Herby talk thyme 13:00, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
    Sorry friend, I didn't realise. 82.31.11.207 13:04, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Do you say that what sincerity can be expected of the person who assumes details of the thing to be "Now they're exporting their hate to meta." without correctly examining it even in the excuse or the apology? I feel that the language barrier is not got over easily strongly. I wanted the person in the standpoint like him/her to behave after it had investigated carefully in an objective standpoint because of but. --Hatara Kei 14:21, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Folks, It seems to me: Guillom thinks the Japanese wikipedia contributors are doing bad because they are "canvasing". The Japanese Wikipedia contributors think they are doing good because they are telling the global community something important. Both are potentially valid view points. But did Guillom see the sense of the Japanese Wikipedia community? Forgive me, let me put it this way, does Guillom think the Japanese wikipedians who oppose Aphaia are here simply for vengence? Hillgentleman 01:42, 1 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I don't believe the Japanese Wikipedians opposed Aphaia for revenge. I believe they have good reasons to do so. Though, I know Aphaia enough to believe that what wass reproached to her must be the result of several misunderstandings, and that her ban was disproportionate. What made me temporarily upset is that ja:wp users didn't seem to be willing to share this view. I felt Aphaia was harassed by this group of ja:wp users, and I felt harassed too when my vote was commented. I have apologized for my badly chosen words, even though I still feel there is a major unfairness in the whole case. guillom 10:19, 1 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, where of a current remark of guillom was the apology of Japanese Wikipedian included? At least, words of apology were not found in the range that I had read. Or, is my language ability insufficient for this? Man is a living thing that falls in mistake. However, I think that what action he/she does when committing an offense and the person's nature is clarified. From beginning to end of the excuse based on a personal interpersonal relationship with Aphaia as for a current remark of guillom. I think that he/she doesn't admit a fundamental mistake. Therefore, I fear the possibility of selecting the same action this time when guillom will fall into the same kind of situation this time in the future high. I also admit the problem to be in the action of a part of, Japanese Wikipedian about the Aphaia's election. But, I hope when the fact of having thought that a lot of Japanese who do not want to take part in meta usually cannot help taking part in Aphaia's election also wants you to think. --Hatara Kei 17:09, 1 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
His (second) apology is to be found here, if You can't forgive it is Your matter, but I hope, You never get into a situation where You did something wrong, and are not forgiven even after sincerly apologizing afterwards. Please end this discussion here (and try to forgive). thanks, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 17:24, 1 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  34.   Oppose --Midnight Star 17:42, 4 December 2007 (UTC) And here is the detailed reason: During the 20 months I’m with Wikipedia it happened about 10 times that I turned to a special rights user (steward, bureaucrat or checkuser), each time for a good reason in my view. Except one single time (Angela) I have to report only disapponting expieriences. In half of the cases I was ignored. Once I requested a renaming, and it took 10 days until the responsible bureaucrat responded. That is someone who usually edits Wikipedia 10 hours a day, as far as I see it, and he edited exactly until a few minutes before my request. Some time later the 2 bureaucrates (at that time the only 2 bureaucrates in the second largest WP community, besides) stated towards the community, that there was no need for a third bureaucrat. I think such a statement illustrates how special rights users judge things only from their very own view. After waiting 8 days I turned to a steward for the renaming. The idea was that he could have renamed all my accounts on the miscellaneous wikis, making it unnecessary for me to turn to four different bureaucrats on different wikis. But I was rejected, because „stewards shouldn’t do the bureaucrates jobs...“. In Germany we call that a „Media Markt mentality“, refering to the service personal of Media Markt, who always tell you „that’s not my area, please turn to my colleague“ (usually some very busy colleague then). I criticize that stewards cultivate a policy that lets them permanetly say „this is not my job, turn to someone else“. Now more than two days ago I came to Pathoschild and asked a simple question about a Simple Wikipedia. I asked him, because I want to be discreet – it could be that you actually don’t want new requests for more Simple Wikipedias and also don’t want to have those topics discussed. Meanwhile Phatoschild worked a lot here on Meta (3 periods + one edit), including confirmations of many stewards and playing in his sandbox. It would have cost him maybe half a minute to answer my question, but he didn’t. There was a very similar request before mine, and it only took 7 minutes to be responded. Other than in my case, Phatoschild knows the other querist, I guess. As I have already stated here, requests to special rights users often take much too long to be cared about, especially when you're not an aquaintance or a friend of that special user. Sometimes you can be happy if you don't get ignored. That is a characteristic problem accross the whole Wikimedia Community, and I think most of the senior staff isn't even aware of that. You might think, it is not cool to elaborate on these issues like I did here. But I am really annoyed about these special rights users mentalities, which all lead back to the same core. And certainly there are many people in the communities with similar perceptions. I am just campaigning for to pay some regard to the „little wikipedians“ generally. To maintain Media Markt etc. within Wikimedia might lead to different futurities. One is, that you just free stewards from the need to be reconfirmed. Another is, that you might have not only one, but some 50 or more opposers here next year, and not only opposing one, but all stewards. Thank you for your attention --Midnight Star[reply]

Besides, on this one, I suspect you're actually relating personal experience here more than translating, as I've seen how she bosses you around on IRC... and I have my suspicions about the other part as well. ++Lar: t/c 17:38, 29 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The translations into English are intended to be vehicular— allowing stewards and others to easily read all comments in the end. While "oui" and "si" may be obvious to you, I'm betting "iva" and "tak" and "はい" are less so (and others might think "はい" is more obvious that "oui"). 1. Appears to be largely inactive (last Steward action in April) --Herby talk thyme 12:11, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  2. While this appears to be true, Sj has been involved in many aspects of the foundation's work for a long time and his counsel and advice would be valuable. He has also indicated an intent to increase activity levels so I support retention of stewardship. ++Lar: t/c 12:50, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  3. As Lar mentons, Sj has been an enormously dedicated and longstanding volunteer for the WMF. While I agree with Herby that Sj probably won't be the most active steward, the few actions he does perform will only help the WMF and its projects. No such thing as too many clerks in the checkout counter ;) Gaillimh 00:21, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  8. Sj., while he has been very helpful in the "behind-the-scenes" area of the Steward system, has been inactive, and that's not the sort of characteristic we need in our Stewards. Suggest no re-confirmation, unless Sj is willing to participate in at least some Steward inactivity. Anthøny 19:51, 28 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  10. Last action was in 2006. Not sure it's healthy for these positions to be a gold watch. --JayHenry 02:14, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The log may be acting up on us (presumably unrelatedly, the CU log also sometimes acts up), as different people are reporting different last activity times. I thought Pathy was not showing up recently in the log too, and when I checked again, he had multiple activities a week earlier. So it might be a good thing to double check the log (Herby said April of this year when he checked). I do in the general case agree with JayHenry even if I've argued for an exemption for Sj... ++Lar: t/c 06:06, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm possibly reading the logs wrong or unaware of activity that would be logged elsewhere. Looks as if he fiddled with his own permissions in April of this year, but hasn't actually changed someone else's permissions since June of 2006.[4]. --JayHenry 16:46, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No, I went and looked again and I'm not seeing the inconsistent results I was before, so I think you're right. So then, it's down to the stewards to decide if his statement that he intends to become more active, and the other factors relating to his project experience that some mention outweigh his inactivity... because it's a tossup. I guess in the end my support, such as it is, is rather weaker than it was for Angela or Anthere. (both who do have activity to boot). ++Lar: t/c 18:22, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  7. Unconfirm: a) for the unbecoming behaviour in response to criticism in the past steward confirmation elections, which is worthwhile a decade of opposition; b) also, for reasons which user:Olve well depicts in the page about the proposal of closing Lombard wikipedia: Your profile shows you listed as Italian, as an administrator on it.wikipedia, it.wikiquote, it.wiktionary and it.wikibooks, as well as the vice-president of Wikimedia Italia so you might want to consider that your threats of blocking people here will look like threats to strangle dissent in this particular setting. That being said, racism is neither a precise, nor useful, term here; and the same goes for fascism . Nationalism (or maybe rather chauvinism) getting a bit out of hand seems like a reasonably fitting label, though, and the current campaign looks very suspicious to a great deal of people elsewhere in the Wiki community. I doubt that anyone would be opposed to making the Lombard project better, and that is the natural course of action here. I am not saying that that will be an easy task. But it is an appropriate one. Closing down this project for the highly debatable (and in some cases plain misguided) reasons listed would be a scandal for the whole Wiki community — and it would put the Italian one in a particularly grim light. -- Olve 11:09, 2 December 2007 (UTC) Regards,--clamengh 12:25, 2 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  8. Unconfirm -- The hawkish beahviour of this user is not worth of a user, let alone a steward. Recent threats of blocking people expressing their dissent about the proposal of closing a project should also be carefully ponderated: summing up, it looks like the case of applying wikimedia clause: if you think that steward are supercops, forget about that. I hope we shall be able to forget soon some contributions by this user--Belinzona 09:38, 3 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If insulting other people is an expression of dissent, and asking people to stop it is threatening, then I'm guilty as charged. And since (as you can read in my statement above) I've basically resigned from my role as steward, your comment and those of your 2 friends are once again proof of which kind of people you are. --Snowdog 23:15, 3 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Comments about Yann

  1. I will never again have confidence in Yann, after his attitude for several articles which have led users to ask for ArbCom advices for sysop tools misusing and community's admissibility criteria refusing (one is currently undergoing. For french language readers : [5], one was closed : [6]). Grimlock 09:52, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  2. I strongly support this defiance motion (french: motion de défiance) by Grimlock. I have absolutely no trust in this guy: he refuses community opinion if it goes against his political opinions and behaves not more than a vandal in several occasion, harassing several persons. Moez talk 15:49, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  3. I am also strongly against the reelection of Yann. He was asked twice by the Arbcom not to misuse his sysop tools. And apparently, he does not care, since the ArbCom decision goes against his beliefs and opinions which is against everything Wikipedia is about. Meodudlye 17:14, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  4. I agree with all the previous comments about Yann's behaviour on the French-language Wikipedia; Yann has abused his sysop position on this project and he keeps a POV-pushing, conflicting attitude towards the community and the ArbCom. I definitely don't trust him as an editor and sysop on fr:wp. Though, the steward confirmation process is independent from his contributions on this project, and I have nothing to reproach him for as a steward. I therefore see no reason why he shouldn't be reconfirmed. guillom 10:08, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  5. Well I don't know about his french wiki conflicts but as a Steward, he has been excellent helping out whenever he can and wherever possible and I trust this guy to continue doing so. He has been one of the most out-standing stewards and I hope he continues to do so and I hope he gets re-confirmed because he has been doing an excellent job as a Steward and it might be a good idea if he stayed out of the french wiki since its his homewiki and if he hasn't abused his Steward powers on the french wiki then I believe he should still keep it ...--Cometstyles 10:25, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  6. It sadens me to hear that there are problems on fr.wiki, but I must agree with Cometstyles here. 10. I have seen the issues on fr.wiki, and while I agree that they're regrettable, I disagree that this should be used to question Yann's performance as a steward.
