Keeping track of Esperanza users who haven't been welcomed

Hey Tangotango, I have a cool tech-related question/request for you. We're trying to make sure that all new Esperanza members are welcomed, and have added section on the members page for those who want to welcome them. However, there could be cases where new members fall through the cracks, so to speak. It was mentioned at the recent Esperanza Council meeting that you are rather good at creating pages such as one that could keep track of any Esperanza members who haven't been welcomed. Do you think this would be possible? I don't know much about it, but your technical prowess has been highly spoken of, so hopefully you will have an idea. Many thanks! -- Natalya 01:07, 14 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

That's fantastic, Tangotango, thanks so much for getting that to work! Just to clarify, this lists all the new Esperanza members since the last time the bot ran, correct? If it ran every four days that would probably be fine, I would imagine that with enough welcomers, everyone should be covered within that time period, and hopefully not get left behind. What do you think? Thanks again! -- Natalya 14:54, 26 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Sounds like a plan. Let me know when it gets approved, and I'll let all the welcomers know about it. They will certainly appretiate having the list! -- Natalya 23:41, 26 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Please explain

Hi,

You recently accused me of vandalising a page... you sent me a message threatening to ban me from Wikipedia. As I have never vandalised a page, could you please explain what I did that is not permitted? Thank you. Ayden161 08:56, 10 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

RFA analysis

Regarding your excellent analysis pages here and here, might I suggest that your bot add the CSS style "white-space: nowrap;" to the entire table? The latter is display on the Bureaucrats' noticeboard in a rather ugly fashion because the stupid dates wrap. I have no idea whether the bot updates the contents or simply rewrites the entire table, else I would chance my arm and do it myself. in any case, I thought it only polite to consult with you as a first recourse. (Plus my knowledge of CSS does not extend to knowing whether that style directive is actually legitimate for an entire table, and I'd rather not make a prat of myself experimenting out where people can see me .) Ok I've gotta ask

What is Foi avisado? Also, I've noticed you use the same AO / AB thing as CSCWEM, and he tried to explain, but I'm slow. Will you explain it to me? DVD+ R/W 02:42, 14 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Both make sense. Many thanks, DVD+ R/W 02:49, 14 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

What will I do with the page WikiProject Redirect? I need to point it in the direction of WikiProject Redirect, but how?
Thanks a bunch!! Auroranorth. Are you an administrator already or are you just a very good Wikipedian?

Compliments

That's OK! You deserve the barnstar! The reason I asked you whether you were an administrator was because I would have nominated you after looking at some of your edits ;) Did you know you are also featured on the Wikipedia Compliments page?

Deleted page

Hey there. I see you deleted the page Doyle Dykes earlier tonight on copyright infringement (and I didn't note at the time that it was a recreation of an earlier page; I tried to find the source of the copyvio and failed, myself, but I'm glad you caught it). It appears to have been recreated again at Doyle dykes, however, so you might want to take a look at that one if you have the opportunity. Cheers! Tony Fox (arf!) 06:58, 17 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Would you explain to me your rationale for blocking User:TravelMug indefinitely?

Hi, in preparation for an RFA in the coming weeks, I'm trying to improve my understanding of an admin's duties.

I noticed that you blocked User:TravelMug indefinitely. A block of some sort was certainly in order given his serial vandalisms to articles related to the Yankees. However, I also noticed that, at about the same time, User:Konstable put a temporary block User:70.35.189.74. The amount and severity of vandalism seems to be about the same. The only thing I can think of to differentiate the two cases is that one was a logged-in user (User:TravelMug) and the other was anonymous IP.

Is this the reason for the two different block lengths or is there some other reason that I haven't figured out yet?

J. Hunter Johnson

The bio page for J. Hunter Johnson listed published books he (I) authored. Does that not sufficiently assert importance or significance? -- JHunterJ 12:11, 17 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Couldn't find what reference? The article had only one paragraph, which listed the books (for example, GURPS Monsters). Reading the article or checking "what links here" would have sufficed. "What links here" (which I just checked) also leads to this note on the nomintator's talk page: "Hi, I noticed that you tagged J. Hunter Johnson for speedy deletion, using the A7 reasoning. However, I don't think that A7 applies here. There is an assertion of notability in that he has worked on things important enough to be blue-linked in Wikipedia. If you think that this article should still be deleted, consider putting it up for AfD. Please feel free to add any questions or comments here or on my talk page. --- Deville (Talk) 17:55, 16 September 2006 (UTC)"
The article's talk page also noted the violation of the autobiography guideline, but that wasn't in question this time. As I noted in the talk page after the speedy was placed, the nomination may have been in retaliation for my recent nomination of Steve O'Keefe (attorney). -- JHunterJ 12:25, 17 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the restore (I didn't realize it was possible to restore deleted articles). I've placed a pointer to the more appropriate deletion steps on the second nominator's Talk page as well. -- JHunterJ 18:50, 17 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

User talk:222.153.148.59

You may want to see what the above user did to your unblock denied comment. I would have reverted myself, per NPA, but i'm not sure that I'm allowed to, it not being my talk page. Cheers --Storkk 17:20, 17 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Sorry for butting in here, this not being my talk page and all...I just noticed the situation and reverted the anon's edit. It's clearly revertable, not just under NPA, but also because it tries to put words into Tangotango's mouth, which is a big no-no and also a rather stupid thing to do if the user is actually interested in being ublocked :P -- Ferkelparade π 17:29, 17 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for pointing it out, Storkk, and thank you for reverting, Ferkelparade :) - Tangotango 02:45, 18 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Whatredirectshere

Hi, I just noticed your Whatredirectshere tool at the Toolserver, and I've integrated it into the Vietnamese Wikipedia since I find it so useful. It would be nice, though, if the interface were localized for Wikipedias that use it, so feel free to use these translations into Vietnamese:

September Esperanza Newsletter

Program Feature: Barnstar Brigade
Here in Wikipedia there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go unappreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go unnoticed. As Esperanzians we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. This is where the Barnstar Brigade comes in. The object of this program is to seek out the people which deserve a Barnstar, and help them feel appreciated. With your help, we can recognize more dedicated editors!
What's New?
September elections are upon us! Anyone wishing to be a part of the Advisory Council may list themselves as a candidate from 18 September until 24 September, with the voting taking place from 25 September to 30 September. Those who wish to help with the election staff should also list themselves!
Appreciation Week, a program currently in development, now has its own subpage! Share your good ideas on how to make it awesome there!
The Esperanza front page has been redesigned! Many thanks to all who worked hard on it.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  1. The proposals page has been updated, with some proposals being archived.
  2. Since the program in development Appretiaion week is getting lots of good ideas, it now has its own subpage.
  3. The September 2006 Council elections will open for nominations on 18 September 2006. The voting will run from 25 September 2006 until 30 September 2006. If you wish to be a candidate or a member of the elections staff, please list yourself!
  4. The new Esperanza front page design has but put up - many thanks to all who worked on it!
  5. TangoTango has written a script for a bot that will list new members of Esperanza, which will help those who welcome new Esperanzains greatly!
Signed...
Although having the newsletter appear on everyone's userpage is desired, this may not be ideal for everyone. If, in the future, you wish to receive a link to the newsletter, rather than the newsletter itself, you may add yourself to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter/Opt Out List.

Esperanza elections

Hi Tangotango! Sorry if no one has asked you this yet, but would Tangobot be able to update the tally and such at the September elections? You can either let me know or (if the answer is yes) just go ahead and start with the necessary processes. I tried to set up the applicable pages the same way they were set up last time, but if I screwed up somehow, feel free to delete them and start fresh. Thanks for your time, and let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Cheers, EWS23 (Leave me a message!) 01:18, 25 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Sure, no problem, glad to hear I did it right. :o) Thank YOU very much for setting up the bot to help us out. EWS23 (Leave me a message!) 04:07, 26 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Esperanza elections

Sorry for bugging you, but is there any way to make Tangobot list the entries in order of position in the lead? Sorry, Highway Daytrippers 14:38, 25 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, thought you had already started. Highway Daytrippers 14:56, 25 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Oh just a point, is there any reason there are 6 people in the green, I know there are many people with 3 votes, but there is actually only 3 seats in total. Cheers, Highway Daytrippers 18:00, 25 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
It's fine, I'm still redrafting my Blues composition. And staring into space, obviously. ;) Highway Daytrippers 18:28, 25 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Esperanza elections...again

I was wondering if it was possible for TangoBot to specifically ignore that certain voters are discounted inelligable. In this case User:Ed is registered in Esperanza as User:Leroyencyclopediabrown(since he changed his name) and therefor his vote is valid, despite the fact that he is not on the members list. Thanks. Canadian-Bacon t c e 01:58, 26 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

This appears to also be the case with User:Sean_gorter voting with the account User:S! Canadian-Bacon t c e 04:32, 26 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

I did have [[User:Freakofnurture]] appended to the end of his signature at one point in time, but he removed it with this edit [1]. I've asked permission from him to allow us to tag it on, but it's no big deal, I guess we can just tally one extra up at the end of the voting period if we really have to. Canadian-Bacon t c e 19:45, 26 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'm just now getting around to reading people's talk pages, I did my edits to make his vote not appear invalid, just do [[User:Username| ]] to prevent anything even showing up. DemosDemon 19:35, 30 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Ok, hopefully this will be the last thing relating to the esperanza election. User User:Crazytales56297 is showing up as an invalid voter, but he is clearly on the voter list. I think it may have to do with the lowercase of his name on the list and in his signature. Thanks for all the help by the way. Canadian-Bacon t c e 15:12, 29 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Elections

Esperanza elections
Thanks for supporting me in the September Advisory Council Esperanza elections. Although I wasn't elected to the Advisory Council, I am very happy with the response I received from my fellow Wikipedians. I was shocked at the support, and was touched by it. Hopefully I will re-apply in March and try again for the job. Thanks again, Highway Daytrippers 23:46, 30 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Brackets

Hi, thanks for your response on the helpdesk. I tried your advice with EditPad Pro (which should support regular expressions) but I wasn't able to get it to work. If it's simple to do, could I perhaps e-mail the list to you? If not or if it's not simple to do, then I will go futzing around some more. :) Garion96 (talk) 13:57, 2 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the offer. I don't know if I can put it on your sandbox. The list is copyrighted which even counts for sandboxes. I've just been using the preview button to check a few entries (without saving). (bit background) It's a list of people with HIV, I am working on List of HIV-positive people, the list I copied and pasted from a foundation website to remember hiv victims. Which I assume is copyrighted. I just want to compare the list with wikipedia to check out which entries should be included in List of HIV-positive people Garion96 (talk) 14:24, 2 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Fatuha:: Thanks

Hi tangotango, Thanks for the work on the disambiguation page for fatwah. Well Fatuha and barh two completely different identities, so the merger of the two can be justified only on the grounds as per given by you that both of them are too short. Anyways, I ll soon be working on Fatuha (right after my tests get over on this wednesday, am a engineering graduate student at NIT Trichy), so that it has merits enough to deserve its own page. Thanks again. Looking forward to a cordial WIKI relationship.. :-) happy wiking.. Ansh.prat 07:40, 15 October 2006 (UTC)AnshuReply
