Note that my username is spelled with a zero, to avoid interfering with people who want to search for the historical Evil-merodach (king of Babylon, 6th century BC).

He wasn't actually evil, as far as we know; the beginning of his name is a false friend of the English word "evil."

Notice that his name begins with the English word "evil," in St. Jerome's early 5th century Latin version of the Bible:

... elevavit Evilmerodach rex Babylonis, ipso anno regni sui, caput Joachin regis Juda, et eduxit eum de domo carceris.
