Shrek the Third (called Shrek 3 in early production, not to be confused with Shrek 3-D) is a film planned for release on May 18, 2007. It will be the second sequel to Shrek. It is being animated by DreamWorks Animation. It will be produced by Jeffrey Katzenberg, and distributed by Paramount Pictures.
Plot Synopsis
Shrek the Third finds Shrek and Fiona reluctantly reigning over Far, Far Away. Indeed they seem to have some difficulty fitting into their robes, as well as adjusting to the etiquette expected of monarchs as Shrek is seen in the trailer having his nose hairs plucked. But if they can find the heir to the throne and bring him back, they can leave their current lives behind and return to their swamp. While Shrek, Donkey and Puss in Boots are in search of the heir, Fiona holds off a coup d’etat by Prince Charming. In the end of the trailer, a baby in a carriage vomits all over Shrek.

Production
Shrek the Third will be the first Mike Myers film to be released by Paramount Pictures since 1993's Wayne's World 2. On the 2004 show, Father of the Pride, Donkey (voiced by Eddie Murphy) was featured, solely to promote that Shrek 3 was to be released in Winter 2006.
Five actors from NBC's Saturday Night Live appear in the movie, two of whom are currently on the show; Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cheri Oteri, Amy Poehler, and Maya Rudolph. Two members from the Monty Python troupe, John Cleese and Eric Idle, are reunited in this movie. Cleese will be reprising his role as King Harold, while Idle will provide his voice for the new character Merlin The Magician. Smash Mouth, who recorded a version of "I'm a Believer" for the original movie, recorded a special version of Artie's Dance.
On March 6, 2005, it was announced that Shrek 4 is being written by Tim Sullivan, (A Handful of Dust), and may be released in 2010. At this point it was stated that Shrek and Shrek-2 had earned $1.4 billion worldwide.[1]
