Puppy chow, also known as people puppy chow, human puppy chow, or muddy buddies, is a chocolate snack, and is commonly homemade. It is intended for people, not pets, as chocolate is unhealthy for animals.
The main ingredient of Puppy chow is a cereal such as Crispix or Rice Chex. The cereal is mixed with melted chocolate, butter (or a butter substitute), and peanut butter. Finally it is coated with powdered sugar.
Traditionally, large gallon sized ziplock bags or brown paper grocery store bags are used to coat the powdered sugar. But recent research has shown that the ziplock bag provides a more even coat of powdered sugar on the chocolate and peanut butter. Shaking for five to ten minutes allows a quality coat and also allows for some cooling. As the chocolate and peanut butter must be melted hitherto.
