Michael Matthews (Gander, 28 agosto 1950) è un compositore e docente canadese naturalizzato statunitense; ha vissuto in Canada dal 1985.

Biografia

Matthews nacque a Gander, provincia di Terranova e Labrador, Canada. Tra i suoi insegnanti di composizione ci sono stati Larry Austin alla University of North Texas College of Music (ex North Texas State University), Ben Glovinsky alla California State University di Sacramento e Aurelio de la Vega alla California State University Northridge.[1]

Dal 1985 al 2012 Matthews è stato responsabile della composizione presso la facoltà di musica Marcel A. Desautels presso l'Università di Manitoba a Winnipeg. Matthews è direttore d'orchestra e fondatore e direttore artistico della nuova serie musicale GroundSwell di Winnipeg.[2] Dal 2002 al 2004 è stato compositore residente della Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra.

Matthews è membro della Canadian Electroacoustic Community, membro della Canadian League of Composers e compositore associato del Canadian Music Center. Divide il suo tempo tra Montréal e Berlino.[3]
