Primary transcript is an RNA molecule that has not yet undergone any modification after its synthesis. After splicing the transcript forms messenger RNAs, ribosomal RNAs, transfer RNAs, or ribozymes. Primary transcripts of messenger RNAs are also called pre-mRNAs.
