Born Desmond Patrick Bruen on March 20th 1953 in Dublin Eire, he changed his name to Sean Boru when he became an actor in 1997. Boru was diagnosed with Lymphatic cancer (Hodgkins Lymphoma) in 1998, he was again struck with it in 2000 and 2002. He received radiotherapy for the first 2 cancers then chemotherapy, he filmed the second and third treatments to make a film to help other patients and their relatives to understand the proceedures, it is called `Sleeping with the light on`, his intention is to put free copies into every cancer clinic in the U.K. and Ireland for free loan out. During his 3rd treatment Boru wrote his autobiography as a private project for his children and grandchildren, this led to him writing the biography of Michael Carroll the lottery lout, who won £9.7m in 2002, the title is `Careful what you wish for`. The book was launched by John Blake publishing in Oct 2006, it got critical acclaim from the reading public and went some way to changing the public persona of Carroll. In 2006 literary agent Diane Banks signed him up and he then went on to ghost write the latest edtion of the Alex Higgins story, published in May 2007 by Headline. Sean Boru has also written a history book about London, he was a tour guide in the capital for over 7 years. The book is called `A unique history of London. Featuring the American Connections` and was launched in America in Feb 2006. Boru had a unique style to his tour from a double decker bus, he mixed comedy and history and developed a style that helped the audience to remember the dates and stories. In 2005 Boru wrote a stage show called `And over here on the left` which is a one man show in which he plays the character of a tour guide, turning the theatre into the bus, he uses a mix of film, still pictures and 3D images projected onto the stage and a screen for the audience to focus on. The first tour is expected to start in 2008. Sean Boru lives in Essex with his second wife Lesley and has 4 children, he has been free from cancer since 2003. Boru was filmed as Carroll`s biographer as Carroll was in prison at the time the film was made. Boru is no stranger to Hollywood and has been photographed with many of the A-list Hollywood stars who he has met in Cannes and worked with on film sets. In 2001 Boru met Renee Zellweger on the set of Bridget Jones Diary and struck up a conversation with her, Renee encouraged him to write his biography and make his film, she has supported his efforts since.
