PARCTab

PARC Tab

The PARCTab is an experimental mobile computer designed by Xerox. It was the first device made to meet the concept of ubiquitous computing. The PARCTab was similar in shape, size, and appearance to a PDA. It had a touch screen and a stylus. It had handwriting recognition.

The PARCTab had infrared sensors and emitters to communicate with 'gateway nodes' that were to be installed in a ___location. The notable feature of the PARCTab was its ability to offer different fun cionality depending on where the user was using the device within the area covered by the gateway nodes.[1]

The PARCTab had a Motorola processor.[1]

The PARCTab was one of the devices as part of Xerox's PARC program. Roy Want was one of the team members.

PARC coined the term "ubiquitous computing".
