Godzilla: Unleashed also known as G3 or GU by fans, is the name of an upcoming Wii, DS and PSP video game based on the Godzilla film franchise. Like its previous entries, Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee and Godzilla: Save the Earth, the Wii and PSP versions of the game will be developed by Pipeworks and published by Atari. The DS version will be developed by Santa Cruz Games (and likewise published by Atari).

An IGN interview with Pipeworks indicates that the game is being built from the ground up and is specifically designed with the Wii control scheme in mind.

Stories and Factions

Within the storyline, the monsters will be divided into four different factions with their own motivations as what to do in this transformed world they've found themselves in, created by extraterrestrial crystals rising from the landscape. The factions have recently been confirmed as "Earth Defenders", "Alien Invaders", "Mecha Saviors", and "Mutant Menace". The story is unknown as to now but will likely involve the Vortaak since they have been the villains so far in the series and it’s also been confirmed that the game contains many different storylines depending on the player's choices.

Areas

The only known arenas out of the eight in the game are New York City and Seattle. New York City is surrounded by large crystals (The crystals act as boundaries). Seattle is covered in snow and ice and the crystals are much smaller in this stage opposed to New York.

Confirmed characters, with possible characters

So far, Atari has confirmed five monsters and twenty-one possibilities for Nintendo Wii and ten monsters for the Nintendo DS[citation needed]:

IGN had set up polls to vote for one of the four listed monsters with the winner being one of the game-specifics to appear on the Wii version of the game. IGN Vote possibilities:

  • Magmouth- A walking volcano monster from the earth’s core.
  • Firelion- A flaming Lion-dragon hybrid from myth, may have some relation to King Caesar.
  • The Visitor- A wild, vaguely spider-like, alien monster captured and sent by the Vortaak.
  • Lightning Bug- A mutant fire fly capable of storing up vast amounts of energy for attack, only female of the four.

DS differences

The DS version of the game features a 2D side-scroller type of game similar to Godzilla: Domination with 3D graphics. The flying monsters will appear on the top screen and the ground monsters appear on the touch screen. Also a multi-player option allows one half of the players to fight on the ground and half in the air.

Wii controls and features

So far, Pipeworks has announced that the Wii version of the game will use the nunchuck for movement, jumps, etc. and the remote for attacks.

IGN's interview with Pipeworks says that the player may do multiple actions in multiple directions at one time.

The Wii version will also support 480p and 16:9 Widescreen.

Online connectivity

There are plans to use WiiConnect24 support for downloading purposes, but the exact details are unknown at this point.
