Rusty Shoop (1947/1948 – August 28, 2024) was an American meteorologist for the Bakersfield, California, television station KERO-TV.[1]

Early life and career
Shoop was born in Dallas, Texas. He joined the United States Air Force, ending up in Northern California after his four-year tour of duty. At Humboldt State University he became the weatherman at KIEM-TV in Eureka, California, where his brother, Larry, was the anchorman.[1]
Shoop came to Bakersfield, California, in 1984, where he was hired by KERO-TV as a meteorologist. In addition to television, Shoop worked as a truck driver, a small business owner, and an insurance company executive.[1] In 2008, he published a novel, titled Blood Harvest, about a crime-solving news anchorman.[2]
Personal life and death
Shoop and his wife, Diane, had four adult children and seven grandchildren.[3]
After suffering multiple headaches, Shoop underwent emergency surgery at a hospital on January 5, 2007 after tests revealed that an artery in his brain had ruptured.[citation needed]
Shoop died from cancer on August 28, 2024, at the age of 76.[3]
